Title: Jeep patriot 2.0 CRD trailer wiring
Post by: steve2459 on June 21, 2009, 10:57:13 PM
Apologies if this has already been covered but I have only just bought the vehicle. I want to know what is the best way to wire the patriot for a trailer, I bought and fitted the towbar which came with a pre-wired 7 pin socket and a load of scotchlok (3M) connectors but in the handbook it says not to splice into the wiring loom. Has anybody got any experience of wiring a tow bar into one of these vehicle?

In all honestly I have not  wired one of these but I know for later model vehicles you can generally get a 'plug in' wiring adapter, which plugs into the loom between main loom and rear lights loom split. I would search one of these out if I were you as it may be a lot easier  for you to install.

I would be very careful. Late model Jeeps have a computer called a Front Control Module which operates the lighting and other functions, and it doesn't take kindly to having stuff spliced into the harness.

Thanks guys I have rung the company that supplied the tow bar and they say that scotchlox are ok but I just have a nagging doubt  and the prospect of a large bill loming over me if I get it wrong :icon_redface:I will make further enquiries before putting connectors to the wires. I can ask the dealer I bought the jeep from if I get really stuck. Or I can pay somebody to do the wiring (against my Yorkshire priciples)
