:icon_redface: morning, tech dunce on the loose again
About 12 months ago I bought a "runner" Jeep 5.9 engine & autobox from a fella somewhere northwards up the country, had a mate pick it up as he had a van and a sling, and it has sat in his workshop/garage ever since, seen it once, it looks not very shiny and red on top :003:. Recently been mullin over a truck purchase and various options to go with it, so rung my mate to get me the engine number so I could double check what it was what it was meant to be, here in lies the advice I need. There is no engine number on it anywhere, my mate is a mechanic so im assuming he could find it if it was on there (ie its not me looking!). So, questions are:
Is there a carefully and cunningly secreted place for the number?
and
If not, is there an obvious way of identifying whether it is what it is meant to be?
Cheers doods

3 ways
plate screwed to passenger side valve cover at front identifies build date and engine type
vin plate of donor vehicle (not relevant?)
After 68 engine displacement cast into side of block.
not much help but there you go.
there are other ways but all relate to VIN nos and combustion chamber size and valve and exhaust port size
and cylinder head casting nos!

as it happens I have a 360 sat on an engine stand in my workshop :003:
so heres a picture of the displacement casting.
