It hasn't escaped my notice that the rear axle in the latest MK7 RWD Ford Transit looks suspisciously like a Dana 60.......
Are there any commercial mechanics here that could shed any light on this?
-
they would be ten a penny if so. come on you guys someone must know.
-
OK.
Just had a chat with Mr. Google.......
It seems I wasn't seeing things, wasn't making it up and haven't been smoking anything, but MK6 and MK7 RWD Transits do indeed use Dana 60s :jump_125: :jump_125: :jump_125:
I'm trying to find more specific and definate answers, but they seem to be a very common option, available with a range of gears (3.77, 4.56, 5.13), LSD and discs.
I maybe onto something here....... will keep trawling.

Aren't they sailsbury made dana designed but recently they have dropped the sailsbury name for dana?
-
and wasnt there something different about the sailsbury that it weaker or something? still a good eye there mate.
get a set of two and build a front from parts. how much do they run, i know a few people that could and would use them.

This is bugging me now!
All the axles on Ebay seem to be different to the axles I've spotted under Tansits. I've looked at a couple now, and they certainly seem to be D60s (Just fitted a pair of D60s to a YJ, so I know what I'm looking at!).
From what I can work out, the Salisburys (4 different types) were fitted to earlier and smaller Transits, and D60s may just be a heavy duty option in the later ones.
Still trawling........

And you can keep your mits of my Tramper Bt Transit van axles !!!! if i come out in the morning to find em gone , there will be trouble :icon_king2:

Thanks Peter!
While you're here, what axles are under a Merc Sprinkler van?
-
hmm scrambler wrecker with dual wheels at the rear that would look sexy in a hick kinda way
-
Like an old SII Landy with a Harvey Frost in the back....... :003:

Not sure to be honest - you can buy a new 4X4 Sprinter as a factory option now (have sold one to the Electricity board here) Have a look at the RB44 for retro axles :icon_winkle: :icon_winkle:

bit of a chugger but you could use the whole runnin gear
-
Ok boys and girls, it seems that I'm right! :icon_super: :jump_125:
From what I can work out the MK6 RWD Transit was indeed fitted with Dana 60 rear axles, but only with the 137ps engine. All the rest ran Salisburys.
But ALL RWD Mk7 Transits are factory fitted with Dana 60s.
As they've only been out since 2006 prices are still quite high for second hand units, but have you noticed how many are about?
Give it a couple of years and they'll be available for peanuts :003:
