Title: Oil Pressure Guage 96 P Reg 2.5td Limited
Post by: mattyspr on August 09, 2009, 09:43:03 PM
Hi All

New Jeepy again. Picked up my first Cherry today. 96 P reg 2.5td limited. A few niggles to sort out.

Noticed upon driving, the oil pressure guage shows fine. Every now and again and randomly and only whilst on tick over when stationary, the CHECK GUAGES flashes up on dash and the oil pressure guage is hovering around zero. If I rev the engine the oil pressure guage rises back to normal, if I let engine back to idle, pressure guage drops. But as I said, It happens randomly and intermittently. At no point does the oil level warning light come on.

Any views on this?

Cheers

Matty

its not a low oil level warning light, its a no oil warning light! so never rely on that, if your oil pressure is low at idle you may need a new oil pump.

I know the pressure switches fitted to the 4.0l petrols of the same era are well known for failure and giving erratic readings, but I’ve no idea if the 2.5TD uses the same sensor/switch. :102:

the pressure sensors on the diesel are like the petrol....they work or they don't.
