Title: what v8 / v6? (non jeep)....car project
Post by: scrw on August 25, 2009, 10:07:30 PM
Looking for a light v8 / v6, over 3litres / 200bhp and easily available in the UK from a scrap yard & in RWD format, any ideas. Thinking VX mv6 from an omega, or maybe a BMW 4l from a 7 series....anything else?? (ps not a fooking rover v8, they are crap)

if its for a kit car you dont need the low end of a 6 or 8 and 200 horses is easily done with a lot lighter lump these days. just find a 2l twin cam out of somethin and it will be more than enough. there are guys on the track day scene who race 1.3's with very surprising results.

going on an auto box so want torque, plus decent HP. If it was going to be on a manual I would stick a ford duratec in

if your looking at a caterham style kit car then forget car engines, put a suzuki hyabusa engine in instead, as the power to weight ratio exceeds a car engine, hence the carham race series all now use bike engines

seems the bmw motor is too big, omega v6 is back to the top of the list, loads of 2.6's about, fancy the 3.2 though

How about a 4 litre Lexus V8? Freelander V6? Or Jaguar S-type 3.0 V6 or 4.0 V8?
All available with rear drive autos

lexus will do it but expensive, freeloader no way, too fragile, s type v6 is the ford engine that won't fit & I think the jag v8 will be too big also.
I'f I could get an LS1 really cheap I would throw one in....

yeh but remember WHY the ford was called an exploder, new land rover is on a exploder chasis/engine base and that was still exploding during development

nowt wrong with the explorer v6, good unit, but a bit to big, exploder came from the tyres that the dealers suggested running at too low pressure, nowt to do with the motor. The bloke at the B&B I stay at darth sarth has put a new one into a county transit
