Hi all,Im a newish member been reading for a bit but now have question.
I have a 2002 grand 2.7crd..121k miles now,fully stamped up etc
I do about 400 miles a week so want to keep things as good/reliable as possible.
Ive had the car only a few weeks, done about 4k miles so far.
Anyway there is some whine/howl when off the gas above about 50mph.Gas on and the sound go's so in other words slowing down on motorways is when i here it most.
According to the garage(service book) i bought it from, all fluids are up to date but i was wondering if i should change them myself and also put in some additives to help.
Ive had a look at the help on this site but im not 100% sure ive got all the details correct regarding doing this.
Could any of you more knowledgable guys point me in the right direction,i'll be doing this at home if poss.
Off to Scotland next week so would like to do it before if i can.
Thanks
Mike.

Sounds like a diff to me.

I had a similar noise on my cherokee.. it went away when I had the rear axle and diff rebuilt. All the things that have needed attention on my Jeep have been between the engine and wheels, just the nature of the beast I guess.

with dr mike. sounds like the diff needs work. change the oil anyway and see what happens. to do so you need to undo the diff cover and tap it to get it off. bucket underneath to catch oil. wipe with a clean rag and put some sealant on the sealing edge and put back on. open the fill hole and add the lsd additive from the stealership and then top up to the hole with the correct diff oil.

Sounds a plan..

thanks all.
do i have to get the additive/oil from the dealers or can i buy a generic one from a motor factors?
-
Get it from a dealers if you can, that way you will get the right stuff, particularly the addative & its only about £5.

Mike,
I have a similar issue on my 2001 Grand (85k). So would be interested in hearing the outcome.
The whine started in the last month. The fluids were changed at the start of the year (by me so I know it had the correct ones).

You can get proper Jeep additive through ebay for el chepo, diff oil from normal motor factor.... good luck
