Title: 4ltr cherokee slow starting
Post by: Dave69 on November 06, 2009, 03:38:38 PM
any pointers on this potential problem ?

the mk1 cherokee runs fine but the starting is getting irregular.

normally the ignition is turned to on and the following lights are illuminated, seatbelt and check engine, the fuel pump is heard to be running and then the engine then starts.

but now the seatbelt light is illuminated and there is now a variable long delay before the check engine light is illuminated and the fuel pump is heard. what does the ECU check prior to sending the voltage to the fuel pump ?

there is no ABS or air con so these relays and fuses have been removed and the system was working fine without these. I was thinking about replacing the CPS as a matter of course but any other ideas would be helpful (anywhere cheaper than £82 from mansfield)

Last time I came across that one it was the PCM.
