Post by: peter_miles_01 on November 09, 2009, 08:39:00 PM

its always been hard to engage park once the car has been put into drive.

any one got any ideas?

what i have to do is try and put into p then go back into d then into p.  its like im ramming it in.  the motion is not jerky other than when putting into p.

do you use the handbrake? I have known it hard to put an auto into park when people have  applied the handbrake first.Personally the only time i use a handbrake is on the mot. and that even counts on the 6.1 ton hummer! the transmission always holds it otherwise.

this maybe a casr of the centre console around the gear shift being slid back so you can see the mechanism working. the button on the gear releases a catch which allows the gear shift to move past certain points and stops it accidently going into park or reverse. if this is lazy or the linkage loose then it might cause the problems you are encountering.
