Title: WANTED – TJ Radiator Drain-plug
Post by: PtP on December 12, 2009, 07:30:00 PM
The drain-plug on my TJ blew out today emptying all the coolant over the fields at the Turkey Hunt. :010:

Is the plug something I will get from a radiator repair place or will I have to get it from a main dealer? Also, are they available as a spare part? :017:

Id guess it might be a generic plug for TJ's/XJ's if that helps...

Rad plugs are not meant to blow out tho....

Around four years back I had the radiator recored and I recall afterwards there was a very small drip coming from the plug and I also recall tightening the plug, probably with hindsight, a little too tight and I suspect the fuse to my electric fan has blown resulting in the coolant overheating putting too much pressure on the plug resulting in its failure.

I’ve now sussed the part is available as a spare from Jeep, Part No: 4773 259.  :icon_biggrin:

Thanks for that!

But GAT Radiators came up trumps yet again. :icon_super:

I phoned a couple of Jeep dealers including Ryfield and they both had to order the part which has to come from Germany. Jeep UK have not sold a single unit within the last 12 months! The price £27.69 inc VAT. :icon_eek:

I called GAT and they said they had a box of odds and ends, so I needed to pop in and they would have a look and compare the bits I had left of mine with what they had. Sure enough they had one! The price £00.00 inc VAT. :icon_biggrin:

The job got done today! Not quite what I thought though. I removed the rad and used the stud extractor to remove the broken threaded part. But, the push-in threaded part in the rad was all cross threaded. GAT Radiators came up trumps yet again with the part.
