Title: KJ 2.5CRD Water Pump - loud clicking.
Post by: Flightmech on December 14, 2009, 02:30:24 PM
Our 54 Cherokee KJ 2.5CRD has just started to make a loud clicking noise as the "clutch" engages/disengages on the water pump. What is this contraption? Never seen one on a water pump before, only on an air con pump. How does the think operate and does the increase in noise mean it's on the way out. Experience anyone? Thanks as always.

It's not the water pump, it's a device known as a viscous heater. Basically it's there to speed up the rate the coolant warms up from cold so that the heater works quicker.

Thanks Mike, that explains alot. Always been impessed how quickly the heater throws out warm air compared to the Ford! Cheers
