Spent a good while lookin into that a couple of years back.

Can get V expensive if you're serious about making a good job of it.

Special pistons 'n' stuff needed to get squish effect right, all new fuel injectors etc etc........

Gotta ask yourself if at 17% increase in cubes is worth £2K :017:

You'll get more bang for your $ elsewhere

have the pistons, rods & crank sat in the shed. Just need injectors, shells, oil/water pumps and an engine to work from, oh and maybe a cam set lol

If memory not failing me, injectors are Denso and the 24lb ones you'll need are OE on a Ford 302 Windsor but dunno what year possibly as fitted to the Lincoln Town Car, stretch limos etc.

Dunno who would build it up tho......but it's supposed to make the ultimate off road engine for a jeep, low rev grunt more useable than a V8 :003:

an I-6 will make plenty of grunt  but  no where near the torque a v8 will pump out all day long... and for the money I would mod the v8 and make a 6 look like a moped...... just a personal opinion like. are you after a 4.0 base engine block or a 4.2?

after a late 4litre block to build up. The ticking follower in my WJ is a bit annoying now the weathers cold  :icon_rolleyes:

I have a block bored .020" over, new pistons, 4.2 crank, new cam kit etc all assembled but it's sat waiting for me to do the head for over a year now. Maybe I'll finish it over Xmas  :icon_rolleyes:

It's never going to make the same power or torque as a tuned V8 but it's an engine that will fit in the engine bay of a cherokee (V8 swaps are hard work), looks standard from the outside and should be reliable and long-lived like the stock 4.0

There are adaptor kits to fit a chevy v8 into an XJ and some have put Lexus v8s in but they are hard work and need the purchase of the v8 (it's not like we have 250-300hp chevy v8s sat around in every scrapyard over here).

250 bhp & 300 lb/f will do me nicely, have the 4.7 bits lying around so should be easily doable

going to buy a second hand one to rebuild & replace the one I have, can't have downtime on the jeep so can't rebuild the one in it
