Hi, and a happy new year!
I have a problem with my instrument cluster not working , everything else is fine we've been having some very cold weather lately (freezing)
i didn't run the jeep for 3 days and noticed it was white over with ice, i started it yesterday a bit of a struggle but noticed the gauges not working the airbag light on and engine check! today i read the codes with a code reader and it showed no codes. the jeep was fine when i parked it up this problem has happend while it's been stood, i drove it a few miles today and the fuel, temp, charge, gauges are trying to work but the speedo revcounter are not also the engine check light went out! looking at the forum could this be a earth fault? please don't tell me i have to take out the dash? cheers Steve.....

It's caused by oxidisation on the connectors to the back of the instrument cluster. If you give it a wallop it'll probably work again for a while but to fix it properly, take out the instrument cluster, treat the connectors with a proper contact cleaning spray, and coat with a silicone electrical grease.

update!
dismantled the dash today , spent ages trying to find the release button on the light switch , said a few prayers put my hand under the dash had a grope about and found it!! pulled out the cluster the contacts looked brand new so i pushed it back in and turned on the ign guess what? everthing working! ran the motor to make sure, i pulled it out again sprayed the contacts and greased them with contact grease and put it back, refitted the trim and had a drive round the estate the voltage gauge is working fine when running but when turned off the engine and turned the ign back on it went up a 3d of the gauge with the engine off!! when running 14 v , so i don't know if I've disturbed something, but time will tell thanks for the pointers....... :icon_winkle:.
