Well, the feckin XJ is really starting to piss me off :?:
Any help you could give I would be very grateful.

Check the connector on the engine controller for water/corrosion
Check the ground connection s bolted to the engine block near the distributor
Check for chaffed wiring

I'd replace the earth connection for the engine anyway, only a few quid and if its the covered stuff they get black corrosion which fooks them up

My 93 XJ was doing same sort of thing, it was driving me mad. It would cut out just like yours, it got worse and would take 15 to 20 minutes before it would start again. It turned out to be the CPS, crank position sensor. I had a new one fitted by a garage, as I could not even see it never mind change it! It might be a bad connection or earth, but if after you've cleaned and checked everything it still does it, get a new CPS. It fixed mine.

Thanks for the info guys, but still no joy.
Checked the plugs to the controller, no water or corrosion
Checked the earths by the dizzy, removed, cleaned replaced.
Checked for chaffing :headpop:
Maybe be time to throw it into the stealership and see what they can come up with. :Hangman:

like we proved when we messed with the fuel bleed, it is a fuel starvation problem i would put money on it. it stops it wont start, we bleed the fuel to the rail... bingo it starts. i also think the steelership might not find any fault unless it stops while it,s there. i still recon its gettin air in the system somehow. it is deffo a tough one though. dont loose heart though mate, it is only somethin silly.

Not sure now if its fuel or summat else
When I changed the fuel filter, I checked for fuel pressure in the fuel rail and there was none, but the feckin thing started and run no problems.
When it wouldnt start the following day, there was loads of pressure in the rail :banghead:
