Happy New year to all in Birty Land
I use my cherry, once its running again with a working speedo and tacho, as my work horse. I use it to transport my tools around with me (i'm a chippy/kitchen fitter/general building maintenance/commercial interior refurbishment/reiki & crystal healer type dude). Having the spare wheel in the back takes up a lot of room that I could use to get my bits n bobs in.
Just wondered on peeps thoughts about ditching the spare in favour of a tin of silly foam whilst I'm pounding the roads of our great country. Of course, once I have my cherry running better, I'm hoping to to get some gentle green laning in with some of you local peeps sometime later this year.
Cheers dudes

Foamy stuff no good as permanent repair :017:
Will not work on big holes/tears.
Nice AA man may get you a brand new matching tyre fitted AT FULL RETAIL PRICE ie 0% discount.
Find out what the full RRP of your tyre is :icon_eek: :icon_eek:

If just on-road then a tin of foamy stuff (get the right size) and maybe a tiny compressor is fine. That's all that comes in a some new cars now anyway.
-
tin of foamy stuff is only a get you home repair,it won't last and once inside the tyre it buggers up the valves so you can't pump the tyre up anymore and ruins in the inside of the tyre, you are not supposed to drive faster than 50mph on it as well,so I would keep the spare, of course the other alternative is try to avoid punctures,
since I passed my driving test when I was 17, I have never had a puncture in any of my tyres on MY vehicles, wheres as on driving trucks/buses I only had one for about 23 years then I joined a scrap metal metal company and i think I mush have had one a day on average! bubba will testify to that!

or you buy split rims and carry a spare innertube, prob not MOTable but will get you home

i drive 2k a week in a van! i have a spare but have only used it once.i use the big cans of tyreweld, you must empty it all in then drive as it says.i have always left the nail etc in the hole if its there even on a bike (was a despatch rider for 10 years) as it helps to fill the hole, if its a screw screw it in more if you can.for 2 very skint months i had 3 of the 4 tyres on the van with at least one nail in it and filled with foam.
it dose nothing to the valve and is fine to drive normally on(i am no expert dont sue me if you do any of this) most tyre firms now dont worry about it being in there when they change tyres at least no one has ever said anything to me about it.
you could always get a space saver if you want a tyre a lot of jeeps come with them but i wouldnt for froading.

Hey Mattyspr,
Like you, I can't afford the space that the spare wheel takes up. I've thought of mounting one (or two) on the roof, but then you've got the extra drag, fewer mpg etc. Bottom line is, I carry two tins and that's fine for nail holes etc. Foam'll get you home!

I carry a space saver, enough to get you to a garage, but nothing more. Would I be right in saying that running different width tyres can knacker your diff? Can all Jeep diffs handle the use of a spacesaver, or is it only later models?
Something like this might free up some space: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JEEP-CHEROKEE-mk1-external-rear-wheel-carrier_W0QQitemZ220544083052QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item335973a46c (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JEEP-CHEROKEE-mk1-external-rear-wheel-carrier_W0QQitemZ220544083052QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item335973a46c)
