so apart from both getting very reasonable prices and the fact the grand has more modern suspension how do you folks rate them against each other

As ya know had my GC for 10 days now and just love it.... creamy smooth pimp like slushy ride. dope dealer windows, more leather than madam lash and it don't seem too bad on fuel compared to the YJ with 35s. Lots a toys (that work) only noticed it had a sun roof when I got it home and looked out of the upstairs window,(muppet) too busy checking all the toys, I guess. Fitted new gas struts for the rear £35 off the bay.. Touch wood well happy. And cos of the YJ this ones a staying as a road rig complete with ghay 225s with a road tread..... god they're quiet.
XJ would have been 300 cheaper for a MK2 or half price (or less) for a MK1. I paid £850
You just don't feel as pampered in an XJ
Non Jeep mates just can't believe the value. Bro in law dropped by. He bought a new disco £40k 4 years ago and is now realising how much it has
depreciated to date.
That's why I went for the GC..... reckoned after 14 years there was a chance I knew a bit about 4.0 litre rigs and could avoid the hit of depreciation.... (time will tell) :icon_super:

I had a Grand but it was just not me - hard to put a finger on it to be honest, have moved on to anther V8 much happier now.
-
I prefer the XJ shape they just dont have the room of a WJ.
-
Had my ZG for 4 years now...pondered Rangie or Jap replacements...think I'll get a newer GC or JK for daily drive and keep the ZG for laning it seemed OK on a lane this pm...totally practical 4by and you can get folk easily into the back seats unlike a XJ
-
Grand for me now too, XJs are crap after driving around in a Grand, WJ's are cheap now too, would skip the ZG and get a more modern one
-
i'd have a grand just for running around on the road
-
Had my ZG for ~10 years and can't fault it. Initially looked at the XJ as I preferred the shape but at 6' 5" it was just too cramped inside. Mine's an oil burner so lacks the oomph of a 4ltr but I didn't buy it for speed.
Comfy cruiser on the road and easily modded for playing in the mud

I'm a GC fan and enjoy the extra space & comfort, although since picking up an XJ might be slowly converting as I enjoy the extra stability at pace and the fact that they can be driven a bit stronger... ahhh decisions decisions....

I like the XJ's a lot as they are smaller through the lanes, cheaper to buy, just depends what you are planning to do with it?
