Post by: Anonymous on October 02, 2005, 01:08:41 PM
I have a spare remote fob for my ZJ, is it possible to have it reprogramed for the XJ?  :-k

I wondered about that,  my ZJ fobs came of ebay second hand, and I had those re-programed for the ZJ :-k

I don't think they can  :?
also depends on what type of fob/system is in it  :?

If the fobs for the ZJ are the same as the one for the new motor you should be able to get it done at the stealers, if it's different then no.
If you haven't got one with the XJ ask one of the other Birtys with a pre 97 if your ZJ ones are the same as theirs.

Nice one Chris, SO have any of you lot got a 96 or earlier with a key fob? If so on the back of the fob there should be a part number! So if anyone has one do me a favor and tell me what the part number is, and I can compare it to the 2 ZJ one I have.
 Cheers fellas :smt023

Your ZJ remotes wont work on a pre 97 XJ. The XJ has infra red remote (the reciever is that little black globe on the roof console) while the ZJ and later XJ are radio controlled. You need the correct XJ one.

Right, I have got the correct kind of fob for the car but do I need to take it to the Jeep or is there a way of setting it manuely>?
Title:
Post by: Anonymous on October 11, 2005, 11:43:41 AM
Instead of peeing in the shower isn't it more hygenic to switch the water on?

What ever floats ya boat Stew!

Think it's gonna take a trip to the stealership to get the fob coded Owen.
Title:
Post by: Anonymous on October 11, 2005, 12:14:09 PM
I have had to take them to  stealerships in the past, all local alarm places couldn't re programme the ECU to see the fob

Owen

I think it depends on what type of fob it is, as there are a number of types.

Mine has only one button, and has to be programmed by the stealership.

But I think some can be programmed at the car. I think there was a post on Jeepclub about this.

If it has to go the stealership, they will charge £15 for doing it.

I have sorted it! Turned ignition on, pointed fob at sensor, pressed unlock, and it all poped on! Couldnt believe it was that simple!

And so to add to my trades it looks like im an auto electrician :D
