Gave myself the day off today as yesterday was my b'day..... Yes..... feckin' old thank you for asking :icon_super:
So the High Lift (genuine) that I scored of the bay for £20 needed a secure place so that I won't wear it as a head ornament.. bit of 3" x 2" and a hole cutter and paint and here it is.[attachment=1]
and another view[attachment=2]
And here's some welding of 2 pieces of 6mm that will be bolted and welded to the tissue thin rear x member that we bolt our bumpers to.
Then it will have a roller fairlead in the middle and a winch under the floor....... god I work so slowly sometimes, at least I 've started now so fingers crossed...... For those what don't weld this is probably like paint drying :icon_super:[attachment=3]
and some more[attachment=4]

wow you can teach an old dog new tricks!
well done J
Hope u had a good birthday!
:003:

welding on ya b'day, is there anything else a wildwood coud ask for ??? :003:
-
Nice work, I like the welding - do you do a long section like that in short sections or in one straight pass?
Oh, HAPPY BIRTHDAY too :greggmo:
-
Used the Machine Mart magnets to hold it at 90 degrees and then tacked at each end double checked and then tacked at 3 places along the length on the inside.... checked it all again and then did 6" one end then 6" the other then foot in the middle then foot on left and then foot on right and it all met up with just the burn marks barely visible where there was a few secs of overlap.
Even so there is still 3mm of distortion over the length..... but weld and bolts will sort that out.....
or maybe by now the YJ is well out of line at the rear??!
-
I'd love to have only had 3mm of distortion when I built my rock sliders :icon_redface:
Nice work :icon_super:

Today stripped this lot out.
Tank guard 72lbs bumper 50 lbs and tank had some fuel in which was nice cos the GC needed a top up!
[attachment=1]
Then some welding and cutting and bolting and propping up and the milemarkers going to fit a treat. Just need to make up the mount .
[attachment=2]
Then had a mo. so grabbed the 8274 I scored a year ago and threw it up front
[attachment=3]
Just got to sort the petrol tank inside issue and am going with a 2 gall cell.... (cos I run the devils fuel)
So more progress than I made all last year......
-
well done dood better day than me

not back yet - soon but not soon enough. monkey updates will come as soon as i get back - i deff have to make tong this year as i have yet to make it to that site. where is doncaster?
-
Out near Doncaster Airport a blast up the A1 and nearer to you and me than Kirton. Started by Mark Askew of Jeepworld and Jeepfest in the days gone past. A new ex quarry that used to be that is open to 'tracks where you want and when you want.' Was up there in the snow a few week ago. Take up on the events is good so Mark has decided to run an event per month and to open it up to 'trailered vehicles' So OK for you and King CJ.... Just wants to keep the 'Dids' away whose next stop the day after is the scrapyard :jpshakehead:

Hows the rear winch comming along mate? What more could a man want an 8724 up front and the milemarker out back :icon_super:
-
All in and done just need to connect it all up and hope it works..... Cost me £100 to get 2x 4.5metres lengths of hydraulic pipe for the winch grrrr.
Just bought a tool for crimping battery terminals on......so have upped the battery cable spec from 25mmsquare to 44mm basically up from 9mm thick to about 12mm thick so that should make the current flow a bit better..... Bet the battery is not up to running an 8274 at 750 cca but fingers crossed.
Got a nice alloy fuel tank for the rear to plumb in later..... 3.4 gals. Will take pics.....but to be honest all it looks like is a YJ with a winch roller fairlead on the back... All that work and no bugger will be able to tell the difference :jump_125:

Sounding good, looking forward to the next event :icon_super: Just had my suspension welded back together, snapped a bracket clean off the chassis at Bawtry last weekend! So now its fixed on with project get winch fitted :jump_125:
