HiYa All,
Do I need any special tools to remove a cylinder head on omy 2.5tdi XJ?
Are the head bolts a standard torx and if so what size and what about removing the injectors?

my personal faverate is liquid Semtex in through the plug holes, refit plugs and start engine, a remote start may be usefull :lol_hitting:

no special tools required but you will need kevlar knuckles. removing the inlet/exhaust manifold bolts for the no.3 piston is a pain. break the exhaust at the downpipe after the turbo and then take the whole lot off with the heads as it is quicker. then dissemble when removed. put everyhting back together loseley before torquine all the head bolts down.

The bolts are a multispline - no idea of size as borrowed them off a mate
as said above remove the whole lot in one and then break down - also rather than refitting with studs use bolts - then if you have other problems you can remove them a lot easier - you remove the air manifold then have easy access to the exhaust manifold bolts :icon_winkle:

don't take this the wrong way but a 4ltr petrol can be cheaper to run in the long term. The diesel is great when it works, but seriously costly when it fails. regular oil changes and coolant changes are damage limitation due to the heads are a timebomb for failure just waiting to happen especially on a mk1. I found out the hard way. I spent more fixing the diesel i owned than it did to lift my current 4ltr. now i feel like a complete muppet
