Hi first time on here and as you've probably guessed it's a problem, driving home last night I hit a bump at around 50mph and the front end shook so violently that I almost lost my grip on the steering wheel, it didn't stop until I braked and reduced speed to about 40, really scarey moment, any ideas, Jeep is a 98 Grand Cherokee.

I could be wrong but it sounds like the steering damper........had the same thing on a range rover once....
-
yep, are you running oversized tyres or bigger offset wheels? they make the problem much worse
-
Yup, change the steering damper. About £30 should do it.
-
Thanks for the replies, at the moment it's bog standard but I'm working on it
I will check out the Damper at the weekend, I've ordered a 2" procomp lift kit (its a start) to replace the knackered originals, I thought it may be something to do with them as I was getting a 'rattle' over rough ground, maybe a combination of things (I hope not)

Lighthouse, they're in the suppliers section

Oh, and BTW check out all the bushes/joints in the steering when you fit the lift.
The most common cause for bumps and clonks from the front end is worn anitroll bar bushes.
Hummm.........mod'ing a Grand........where's Owen when you need him? :?
