The driver's side front UJ on my Cherokee knocks and bangs when going around corners so I thought I'd crawl underneath and have a look. There seems to be a couple of mm play between the two parts of the coupling. I'm guessing that the 'legs' of the X shaped thingy are rubberised or something similar and that this coating has worn off. Are both sides of the Jeep the same?
I called mansfield 4x4 and they're out of stock, they quoted about £20 including postage.. any other suggestions about where I might try?
I don't know where I'd be without this forum! (probably conked out on a grass verge kicking a blue Jeep).

you can get them from american car parts suppliers like US Automotive, Light house jeeps,Stateside auto, mancetter, etc
-
if you ring lightouse they will offer you the choice of greasable or heavy duty. cost is still around the £20 but they only send out for next day
-
This might sound like a daft question, but am I supposed to grease the UJ's? With a grease gun I presume?
-
:017:
if you fit greasable ones yes
they dont come as standard :greggmo:
-
I'll stick with non greasable ones then.. routine maintenance has never been my strong point :icon_redface: I'm more of a 'fix it if it falls off' kind of guy.
-
go greasable dood, last longer :icon_winkle:
-
I have to say that even though parts are cheaper here, 20 quid for a UJ is effing outrageous.
All parts stores carry them here for about 9 dollars, and that's greasable.

One of the joys of living in the states
-
Any good bearing shop can supply the UJs.
-
you could make good cash sending us gifts dood hint hint
-
Nahhhhhhh that don't work any more!!!!
-
not when your importing a container load
-
i always take the caps off very slowly, you dont want to loose any of those needles, and then i but in some graphite grease to all caps, the gease thats inside them is rubbish and drys out, though the greasible type are good if you remember to do it as part of routine. once or twice a year.

I know this is an old thread but £20 for a Spicer UJ would be a bargain based on the prices I've been quoted!
