Title: 4.0 LPG
Post by: ferretjuggler on April 29, 2010, 05:50:39 PM
OK this has been discussed 1,000 times before but with a two ton motor and petrol prices goin stupid...............I gotta take a serious look at LPG again.

How much power loss will I experience on a 4.0L H.O. cherokee engine running LPG on a basic vapouriser system (ie not PLG injected)

Jeep quoted 174-204 BHP for various models, how much (your best guesstimates please) less on gas?

Multipoint LPG reckoned to be almost as powerful as petrol.

TBH might be a long term option, lots of LPG XJ's and ZJ's with multipoint LPG about, just a case of bagging a MOT failure at the right moment.

Like when the owner is looking at a£1500 quote for MOT repairs :icon_eek:

Said this before in a post probably a year ago....

The guys that did mine in Huntingdon (sadly now moved to Southend and doing fleet vehicles ) were petrol/LPG heads and did V10 Ram trucks and raced their own LPG rail so I can flick between Petrol and Gas and there is no difference on the multipoint system that they installed 4 years ago.
Paid for itself by now with consumption on 35s at about 14...... :steeringwheel:

Also, just as an aside, single point systems tend to destroy air filter boxes when they backfire.

A guy who was into big yank V8's and also sold LPG kits warned me off them "moving plate mixer" jobbies for V8s.

Sooner or later it WILL backfire and the expensive mixer is then toast :greggmo:

I have an LPG kit intended for an unmentionable 4x4 :003:

Should convert to a 258 if the vapouriser is big enough, undecided yet.

the future cost of fuel will force us all to reevaluate all fuel possibilities

I did see a steam powered Land Rover on eBay once!

Probably would have been faster and more reliable than a standard one, but  never got finished due to illness in the family apparently.

Didn't say what sort of illness, but I suspect it may have involved a straightjacket :greggmo:
