Title: 2000 Cherokee 2.5TD Coolant loss
Post by: Bergs2 on May 10, 2010, 01:02:09 PM
Hi Guys -

just wondering if anyone could help out with some advice on a coolant issue that i'm experiencing with my 2000 2.5 TD.

Have researched as much as possible online but can't seem to get a comparable set of symptoms to mine -

Worried that the head is cracked (usual internet driven paranoia hopefully) but if anyone can help, i'd be most grateful.

Symptoms:

- After a short drive water/coolant appears to leak from the radiator (this may also be occuring after longer drives - but then evaporating off the (by then hot) radiator) when i say 'appears' to leak - i mean that it drips from that area - can't really see the source of the leak or overflow.

- Yellow coolant light often on - i top up with coolant frequently - sometimes this puts the light out - sometimes not  :017: I think i'm not following the correct proceadure for filling here - are there other ways to fill other than the expansion tank?

- The heater works well - which would lead me to think that the coolant loss was minimal (i.e. the rad is still relatively full)

- most importantly, temp sits at a solid 90ish whether in traffic or on the motorway...

Finally - are there specialists in the VM diesel that are reasonably close to Surrey? I'm happy to spend a few quid to put her right but if it gets into big money i may have to think again... :icon_sad:

any help and advise most gratefully recieved!

Cheers

BERGS (spanner novice)

if it appears to be from the rad - it probably is

or a hose etc.

where abouts does it appear to be coming from?

Hi if its the rad try a packet of CE-LIT it about £0.35 a packet and works far better than Rad Weld etc I have used it for 40 years now and even have it in my 2.5td
cheers Greg
