ok my xj failed its vic check other day on vin number on rhf inner wing has been rubbed threw the centre.al the rest saying its right car for reg.police came out today and saying the same thing and they srayed some foam on the area which made it clearer.vin different to rest off car.they are now having truck on monday to do more invesgiation on it.i know vin is stamped on panels and two plates on bulkhead and in dash area but is there any more vin stamped in body on car anywhere so to see if truck has been re shelled some point in its lift.thanks paul.

It's a unibody - same as a car, with no separate frame/chassis, so unlikely it's been "re-shelled".
More likely to have been stolen or possibly a cut 'n shut. Would have been a while ago though,
when it was worth the time and money to do that to an XJ.
You might find another VIN on the rearmost crossmember.
There's also no such thing as a 96 facelift. Facelifts are 97-01 model year.

is it stored in the ecu? and would a code reader recover it ? :icon_rolleyes:
