ok, to buisiness, i have a 97 4.0l grand with a noicy rear diff, thinking of whats best to do?
1. buy all 6 bearings and replace the lot
2. try and get hold of an allready done axle and just swap over
3. is there a better axle to put on,like an explorer 8.8 as 35s are renown for this any way,
so your thoughts or what parts and where to get them
cheers all
-
cash and how much you are happy to spend is the answer
-
well with in reason cash is not a problem, im not going to throw it away though, was thinking of buying the complete 6 bearing package for the diff, 2xcarriers/2xwheel/2x pinions, then at least i know its all done, if i just replace all the bearings, i dont have to do any re alignment with the pinion gear do i? its a straight swap for them all, replace and go?
-
er I got to admit I know a little about diffs and its not that simple.
-
guys, i have found a couple of ford rear axles to swap for mine, (97 4.0l grand)
which ones do i need? 1 just says early type, the other is 8.8 with lsd "x"reg 99, 3.73?
what gear ratio do i need? and year, then i can ask the other guy as well
cheers for the help
-
Being permanent 4x4 would the stronger Ford diffs put too much stress on the D30 at the front?
-
not sure, it seems a quite normal upgrade for the rear end, be interested to know, i have also found another jeep cherokee rear axle with warranty 1991-2001 355 ratio,
are these the same as the grands "97" tell ya these diff probs are a real pain.
we must all love our jeeps eh? or are we all mad and should be committed lol
-
Just get V8 Bubba to rebuild yours. It'll probably work out a lot less than you might think and the job will be done right!
-
is he up for that sort of thing then? where is he based?
-
Birmingham...Dudley area
-
what neck of the woods are you
-
my superhuman powers of deduction reckon s.west sorta area, possibly devon :magnify_125:

said so in his intro huh?
-
nope, he has very regionalised punctuation
-
:tool:
-
alright, i will 'fess up, it isnt really his punctuation, more his style of subordinate clauses that give the game away :003:
-

lol, you guys are truly mad lol, yea its devon. east devon near the sea, it is a lovely place to be, i might have it solved it, contacted a guy who has recon axles, and he is going to fit it as well..result.£220 for the axle all rebuilt with new bearings, and 3 month guarantee which considering the price of stuff i think is a good deal eh
-
no idea tbh as never had it done but it would be a price that wouldnt make me woozy, so yea, good find

ah thank you i will, also the guy said he will come down from birmigham with it and fit it for a straight 500 inc the axle, and put new wheel bearings in as well..the guy has sold stiff on fleabay even to jeepchryslerparts, think this is a guy to keep his email from eh, might be worth posting him on here as a good source ill ask him first though
-
interesting
-
whats the view on price?
-
well just an update, new (recon) axle, fitted with new bearings all round, inc wheels bearings oil, fitted all the way from birmingham, 1st class job, quick and friendly,
call them selves sas jeeps, i would recommend them for this straight away, i have their number if anyone needs it, they will do absolutely anything.
you can also find them on fleabay under jeepbitsuk1
-
sounds very good i dont know how they can make hardly anything out of the rebuild at at £220 parts arnt to cheap dunno if you have lsd or not and all in at 500 with them coming down to you does not seem out of the way they took your old one as core to rebuild
-
yep, they took the old one to rebuild, so thats where some money comes back really i guess, i yes mines a lsd, how bout this as well, i wanted another set of roof bars so i can run 4 on top, they are comming down this way again next week, so will drop them in and any other bits i need, £12 for roof bars, not bad service me thinks
-
very good indeed if the lsd has been rebuilt i just dont see how they could make on the sxle alone but if they have found a way well done to them
