More of a picking your brains on this one.......
I am (or will be ) putting a TH400 into the YJ in Dec ish time.... so got time to research this.....
The TH400 is an AMC flavour so is same bolt pattern as AMC and Mopar 4.0 engine bolts......
Novak can do the bolt up adapter thing either end...... but......
When it comes to the Torque converter it seems there is a jungle out there of mis-information!
I am keeping auto shift, and will be fitting a Transgo shift kit that firms up shifts. Keeping a higher line pressure in 1 and 2 for crawling (research so far?!!)
The torque converter??? Well it seems if you have one for say 1800-2000 stall speed (Speed at which almost full lock up is achieved)
and put it behind a more powerful engine (Say a 260hp SBC 350) then that converter would then lock up at a higher speed maybe 2200-2500
All this means that you may or may not be crawling at the optimum revs or maybe suffering slippage which apparently causes heat and trans- death!
So anyone know more about this........... or is the answer go manual valve block and treat it like a clutchless manual box??

I would have said that for a given converter and transmission, no matter how huge the engine is, slippage and susbequent heat would be dictated by the load applied to the transmission by the vehicle (and driver)

why not use the 400 one it will handel a lot of power i am not sure i follow what you want it sounds a bit like making life hard

Just searchin' for which Torque converter will be best......
I am sure Jeep wise there must have been different part nos and specs for 305s 360s and 401s BUT which would be able to match the characteristics of the humble in line 4.0 ????
I am guessin' the one from the 305 CJ7 with TH400 and Quadratrac........ but that's only a guess.... based on HP of the 305 at 150-160 bhp
and torque of 230ish...... the mopar 4.0 makes, on a good day ...... 180 bhp and about 200 torque thingies but whada I know.......

not sure if there is a diff with 360 and 305 converters a bell to lightys would shed light

Generally the bigger the engine the lower the lock up
