The KJ has flown through the MOT today. Good news because you never know what problems the last owner has left you with. :017:
My marriage is safe :icon_super:
Garage told me that she'll need new discs and pads on all 4 corners in abt. 3000 mls time.
I would assume that even the shiny spanner brigade or the Bulldog Cult could make this a DIY job.
Wheel off, caliper off, old disc off, new pads in caliper, new disc on, caliper on,.....wheel on.....no? :icon_rolleyes:
Any advice on where to source/price ?
Time to go home :icon_jook:

good news dood

Does the KJ have internal drums for the handbrake? If so worth doing them at the same time, usually only a few £ more & while you have the bits off etc etc
-
Dutch...can manage the wheel comes off...wheel goes on bit but brakes are a bit more..TJ's pads were changed last week but calipers ended up needing doing as well...its not plain sailing...
-
Becareful ordering disks. Many motorfactors have the wrong information on their database.

nice one Dutch
i got a set of pads and disks front and rears from ebay, cheap and probably false economy etc but its done and passed and get checked every year should anything else turn up. They actually sent me too many! anyways,

Got some prices, one from Mansfield and one from Momos' source via ebay:
Hello,
Here are your prices:
Front Brake disc's £40 a pair
Rear Brake disc's £40 a pair
Front Brake pads £22.07 a set
Rear Brake pads £32.50 a set
Hand Brake shoes £28.00 a set
All + VAT and P&P
Chris at Mansfield 4x4 Ltd
Hello
Your quote is £180.00 delivered for EBC pads and discs
Regards
- rapid_car_parts
So Mansfield £162.57 + VAT + Shipping (say 190 quid + shipping say £25 = £ 215 total)
other one £180 all in delivered (does not include handbrake pads) so + £28 = £208 total)
Nothing in it so you would tend to go for the better quality of the two but how do you know ?
-
choice is yours! can mansfield quote brand name? i would imagine they would be better.... :017:
i just had to get cheapos and quick :icon_sad:

i always try the dealers cos sometimes they surprise you

Would you shop at Dealer 'for parts only' ?
I would imagine that dealer would stipulate fit as well.
Already have a quote from my garage for roughly £100 squids a corner all in, maybe abit less

Got the pads (+handbrake) & discs in from Mansfield yesterday. £199 All in. New & shiny :icon_biggrin:
Some serious spannering happening tomorrow :icon_super:

I only use my dealer for parts - they are more than happy to look up prices and discuss the fitting process with me and I often end up not buying the parts from them after finding out the price. Never once have they said that they should fit the parts. Sometimes their prices are exceptionally low too (not often, granted!).
-
I always try dealer first for parts as sometimes they're reasonably priced and are definetly right, also had some goodwill in the past when they've told me the wrong thing etc but honoured the prices.
Parts guy is seperate to the service people so no pressure to use them to fit.
My current fave dealer is Avondale Dodge; not exactly local them being in Arizona!

I havent been around a while Dutch coz the laptop joined Mrs BD in the dead department, but FFS dood dont do it, surely u have learnt by now that when the likes of us do something it just ends up in humiliation as u have to get a mechanic to come visit and suck his teeth at your 'work'

Pfffffffeeewwwww ......nackered smily......
Dutch 4 ......discs & pads 0 :icon_super:
Just finished (21:00). All went well, two fronts (after I remembered to push the piston back before removing the caliper), 1 left rear......
and then.......right rear took me the last 5 hours. Handbrake actuator thingy seized and could not get disc off.
With a lot of patience got the disc off and then with even more patience (and 2 gallons W-40) got the actuator thingy freed up.
Time now for..... :icon_jook:
