they are used on a TJ on the XJ you use the yellow bands to hold them out of the way when not connected

Even on a TJ they're not too smart, as they're prone to bending when you've got the discos parked on 'em if the tyres touch during articulation.
I've removed mine and now use zip ties instead.

If you read the instructions Gaz, it tells you what they are!!!!! :shock:
On the XJ, they say to drill a hole in the side of the steering skid plate (if you've got one) and mount them there.
Have to say, it's a shit place for them. both I and KD lost a retaining pin first time out cos the tyre hits them on full lock when it's stuffed into the arch!!!
I think I'm gonna junk mine and go the zip tie route.
BTW I now have a stock of 10 new retaining pins and suitable drill if you're interested.

What you do with them is.......
take the allen bolt in your left hand& the tube in your right, insert the allen bolt, insert into tube so that thread is sticking out of end.....
then grasp firmly between first finger & thumb of right hand (unless you are left handed), draw your arm right back........& chuck the bloody things over the nearest hedge!!!!!!

use BDS ones instead..... no need to tie them up as the whole center is removable

Same with my ones, but it's still a good idea to tie the roll bar up as that can drop right down and in a PITA when you bend the end :)

Have the storage bits bolted to the steering skid on mine with no probs cos I'm running with 3 1/2 inch backspacing on the rims.

thats where i have mine bolted but the bloody things catch All the time on full lock & I have adjusted the bumpstops out a lot since i put the 31s on...........do ya reckon i could get away with some 32mm spacers & would that help???

Yes but get billet ones, not cast ones. You will then find you need some minor trimming to clear the front flares as well. Fix one problem, create another. It's a Jeep thing.

Bronco do 60mm spacers for £168.50!!! 8)
Wheels with the correct offset for £2.86 more than spacers!! :?

Going back to the beginning of this post, I made a load of stainless ones to replace the crap aluminium ones, worked perfect when I had a small 2" lift. Still got a few left if anyone wants some.
I now run a dia 1/2" stainless bar with holes in the end which sits in front of the rad grille on top, the disco's then slip over the ends of the rod and kept in place with the usual pins. Keeps the sway bar high up and out of the way, never seen anyone use anything like this but it works absolutely perfectly and is extremely positive.

you need the JKS style of disconnects for the gizmos Steve is talking, they wouldn't be any good for your sort of disconnect, sorry.
