Title: Cherokee 2.5Td
Post by: Roop on September 07, 2010, 06:57:36 PM
Hi Guys,

I was wondering if any of you could give me some advice ?

I am having problems with my Cherokee 2.5 TD. Firstly the coolant light stays on and won't go out, secondly she smokes quite badly blackish/greyish smoke with a burning smell ! I 'm not sure if the problem is the head gasket or the injectors. Although I have been told that the injectors need looking at.

She' been off the road for about six months, but i started her tonight and she started no probs first time. Everyone keeps telling me to get rid off her, but they don't understand this love hate relationship we have together.

I know VM's seem to have a rep are the petrol versions any better ?

I would be grateful for any advice.

Roop (newbie)

presume its got water in it?? :icon_biggrin: - if so then sensor may be shot

shove some acetone in the fuel tank as injector cleaner 1/1.5ml per L fuel and give it a blast (or buy injector cleaner and fill the fuel filter and blast it through)- though may not be just injectors

my first one left piles of soot when I took it in for its MOT (had 1 day left when I bought it) - they had to sweep the floor - did the above with injector cleaner in fuel filter and it passed :icon_winkle:

best way of getting one to pass is to run it on veg oil though

petrols aren't a ticking timebomb like the diesel

( i have also owned a diesel and it killed my bank balance in engine repairs )

Yeah , the VM engine is a pile of crap , but i have one too , and despite its problems i love the Jeep and will probably drive it untill it falls to bits...

To be fair the old oil burner has never left me stranded anywhere , its always got me home , even when the hydraulic adjusters went , and it only ran on three pots and filled the sump up with diesal...

Now , one of the rear springs has broken , probably due to a long trip on terrible Ukrainian roads...but still i love my Jeep...

I shall but another Jeep for sure..but next time i will get a Grand cherokee with a petrol engine , and an LPG installation..
