Title: highlift jack....just how usefull is it

we all got em we all want em but do we use em .....darky is sellin one two years old and never used it and i think uk has one no idea how old but unused  and also they are  utter bastards to store in or on ya jeep so what do you use yours for and how usefull is it
do i use mine hell yes so far
offroad as jack
in garden clearing trees
diy as an over the top g lamp
at work as speader for repairing trucks
in garage for fitting lifts
at home moving garden shed
at home moving dead jeeps
for forcing tyres off ther bead

been offroading for 10 years and never needed one, would have been handy to do stews lift but we got around that by using the jeep jack

The CJ's been up on it a couple of times, I've straightened the lorry fenders out with it and yesterday I used it to stop a sheet blowing away.

Got to admit I aint realy used mine either, mainly cause it pisses me of having it in the back of the car. Was thinking of mounting it on the outside somwhere.

Use one to lift Cheapo Cherokee at the weekend while extracting front halfshaft with busted UJ. Handy tool to get you out of the sh*t in the field.

Yeah, i've had one forever, never used it offroad, only very occasionally on the driveway (swapping SOA springs requires a HIGH lift). Right now it holds the freezer door closed (leaky seal).

I bought a 3 tonne trolley jack Monday after seeing (again) how wobbley hi-lifts are. I'd have been happier lifting Mikes XJ with that, much more stable. And in future it'll be in the boot of my XJ, next to the Hi-lift. There are situations where hi-lifts are the only real choice. Tyres off rims in deep holes would be good one, but for most situations i'd rather have the stability of a good trolley jack.

Just my 2p.

2p well spent i like the look of them aluminium trolly jacks but not seen one up to picken up a loaded scrambler

Useful tool only needed once in a while but would be up shit creek without it.

Used mine a few times when working on the jeep.Never used it yet when off-roading.

great bit of kit. mine lives on the bonnet and is only used now and then but its simple and easy to use. there are many uses for a high lift if ya think about it.

Resisted for a few days......cheeky fuck.

Ranted so much on j33p I couldn't be arsed on this one. too many tossers out there with fuck all recovery gear and just think some other twat will help em out. You are NOT one of them Tim, believe it or not but I've got a lot of respect for you. You me Mike and a few others always at every event help someone out, others stand about looking dim.

Thats it, I can't go on again....

PS Why don't people learn the fucking basics.......like "sawing the wheel" when trying to get grip...

They're pretty popular in the US, but if you don't respect them, they'll bite you when you least expect it - too many stories of people getting hurt. ARB introduced the X-Jack (http://http://www.jeephorizons.com/news/arb_xjack_111205.html) at the SEMA show a couple of weeks ago. I like it, but I'll wait to see what the price is going to be.
