Ran low on fluid the other day.
Drained and refilled with Dextrol II.
Can get forward gears but no reverse, reverse lights light up and I've disconnected the linkage at the gear selector and manually pulled the cable... same story.
What makes the gearbox select reverse, a valve? A gear?
Thanks in advance Maf

the first thing to die with low fluid is the reverse band on a lot of autos not certain bout your box but thats what i am thinkin

Not good news, is that a box out repair or can it be done through the sump pan?
Cheers Maf

if mike pavlin thinks simaler cos as i say i aint sure about your box i would have thought a replacement would be cheaper second hand rebuilds are roughly 400 quid and above but i have never delved in to an autos as generaly there are a lot of presure checks and stuff that generaly cant be done under ya shade tree but dont rule out a solenoid prob

I'm with Bubba. If you're sure it's internal failure just get another one. AW4s hardly ever go wrong so are ten a penny at the moment.

thanks mike i did not wish to jump the gun

fixing an auto box is an on the bench job as they are a nightmare especially if you havent done one before.

I just don't know if I can throw money at the Jeep, it owes me £175 including the crew cab conversion, it's bent up to hell with a cracked screen, a box, delivery, plus fluids, bits and pieces will hit £200, and that's all fingers crossed stuff...
Makes more sense to put that towards another Cherokee, plus the scrap value of the old one and I'll get loads of spares.
Looks like the end of the road for the crew cab..... shame but hey ho....

didnt take u long to knock that one up, so u can always do another
BUT, keep away from any old iron jeeps with ya throwaway lifestyle :003:

Sadly the guy that did the conversion is now in Canada and the use of his boss' workshop and materials is also not available. So therefore I'd probably not be doing another crew cab... although another friend might be converting his as he smashed all the glass at the last punch hunt...
Found a guy with a 1996 AW4... might be able to collect, might work out...
Well see what happens, Cherokee's are cheap to get, smaller in the lanes, hence why I prefer them...
