Title: A question on remote locking and alarm options on a KJ Cherokee
Post by: PJAYUK on November 01, 2010, 01:43:36 PM
Hi everyone…

I have owned my new (to me) 2006 Cherokee KJ for about a month now and apart from a problem with the TPMS which the dealer fixed, I am very happy with it. I do however have a question that I seem to have drawn a blank with from the Internet and my dealer. Hoping someone can help…

My question is regarding the remote locking and alarm system, and the options available on the “EVIC” system. According to the manual the system can be configured to flash the lights AND chirp the sounder when it’s armed.  This is achieved by holding the lock button on the remote and then pushing either the unlock button to set the lights and the tailgate release to enable the chirp.  There is also an option to set the lights to flash on lock on the overhead computer but no option to set he chirp.  Having tried to set the audible “chirp” following the process in the manual I can’t make it work.  The lights flash now but no chirp or any other sound when I arm the system.  On some sites there is reference to using the “panic” button however my remote does not have such a button, it only has lock, unlock and tailgate release for the rear door glass.  I was wondering if this option has been deleted as it doesn’t appear in the EVIC as an option or whether perhaps it’s something that is not available on European models.

It’s a small thing but quite annoying as the book says it can be set this way…

An ideas??

The chirp is not available on European models. The panic button is also a US only feature.

Good at least I now know that there is not a fault with it.

Thanks for the information.

If you want it to chirp, try pressing the lock button on your fob four times, but it will turn your alarm off, it's when you leave animals/kids in it all alone, they won't set the alarm off, mine is that sensitive a bluudy moth set mine off the other night, good job the neighbours are nearly all deaf  :icon_biggrin:

Think it hurt it's wing on me door mirror and waited for me to park up, either it didn't live around here or it can't drive.  :jpshakehead:

It doesn't turn the alarm off, it just disables the internal motion sensors for one lock/unlock cycle.
