just thought i would put on the few things i have done and the differences they made.
I know it will never be a 4.0l . That is why i have tried not to spend to much money.
1, 31" tyres, this made the gearing high and i pretty much lost the use of 5th gear.
2, my exhaust was rotton, so i bought a universal sports cat of ebay(£38) and universal straight through stainless silencer(£50).
plus adaptors. total about £110.
This made a real difference and i could use 5th gear a bit more.
3, 4.0l throttle body(£6) off ebay. I put a throttle helix on at the same time. Also matched it to the inlet manufold.
Only a very tiny slight notice in power.
4, my mate had a spare pipercross cone filter, so i thought i would try it.
This made a real difference. maybe allowing the bigger throttle body and helix to work properly.
I now have a 2.5 that drives ok with normal use of 5th gear.
anyone needs any info on these simply mods, i will try to help.

He slipped into yokel turnip talk there, believe it is something about keeping the weight of the vehicle down to increase performance?

I fitted an electrice fan and shroud today. I got it from a ford mondeo for a £10. The shroud is the just about the right width, but about 2" short I also took a thermo switch from a p100.
Ended up paying more the the wire, breaker and relay than the major parts.
Performance wise, not much to be honest. Revs a little quicker.
the good news is, there is a lot less noise, the engine gets up to temp real quick and it runs smoother at motor way speeds.

dont try to get too much out of it or the gearbox will die quit quickly. trust me i know.

i think im done with performance mods for now. i took it for a good run sunday(100 miles ish) and it run great. It does everything and more i would expect from an old 4x4x4banger :)
i do think of the weak gearbox and rear diff. new oil and hope for the best is the plan for now.
