I have just refurbed my rear tailgate on the CJ6 but it doesn't have anyway of locking or securing itself to the body (not the hinges the other end), the owner before me just had a couple of cable ties fastnened to it and just cut them if he wanted to open the rear, this seemed a bit crazy, I can't seem to find a photo of what they are or how they work, has anyone got one I can look at or tell me where to buy one from. Oh and its a 75 CJ.

looks like its the same as a 5, 7 or 8, a twist latch on the inside

The above are later model tailgates that have the latch on
An early one should have some chain with a metal hook at each end and the hook is shaped to pass through the eyelets on the tub and the eyelet on the tailgate to hold it shut in place and then when you lower the tailgate the chain is long enough to hold it level.
