Title: Another off the wall question
Post by: gadget on January 03, 2011, 07:49:30 PM
Ok... here it goes.

As can be seen I have a 1998 2.5TD XJ. Yes the Diesel of doom.

A neighbor has a very expensive... Range Rover Bobtail (Expensive due to his breaking it every time he takes it out into the mud and rocks)

He an I were nattering a bit as I was changing trackrod ends. He commented that he and his friends use 200TDI's in thier land rovers due to it not really having much electronically in terms of the engine to go wrong. Ie... in the wet.

So my stupid question is whether the oil burner lump in mine could be run sans brainbox...etc

Not really planning on it...yet was just wondering.

Thanks for reading.....

Rob

You are all Jeep snobs there is nothing wrong with the 200tdi they were just a bit noisy (especially in an unsoundproofed Landy) and i hear they are worth good money still.
For some reason i had heard they are getting exported to the States, i think it was due to some oddball emissions law to do with either its age or the vehicle it was to go intos age. :102:
Hows that for an off the wall answer :003:

I am a Jeep snob :greggmo:

OK I admit it,  I think this was Lard Rovers best ever diesel engine and it is better than the VM, which was Jeeps worst ever engine.

If someone offered you a real cheapo XJ with a 200tdi in it, would you drive it :017:

Land rover tried using an early VM in the Rangerover didnt they, but even they realised it was rubbish and fitted the tdi to them instead!

LOL.... :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical:

As per usual... Myself (A Yank) as woken up a hornets nest.

It figures I get back to an American 4x4 and get a non-american lump in it.

Well I have always been one to stir the pot a bit.

I know...... I could always sin and convert it to electric... That would really get things going :hysterical: :hysterical: :hysterical:

I used to restore muscle cars in my spare time..... I could really do with a good old chey 350 about now... :098:
