Title: 97 XJ Roof mounted lights
Post by: prophet on January 06, 2011, 10:14:20 PM
I've been thinking about adding some extra lighting to my Cherokee and have been considering mounting four lights on a roof rail at the front. Have any of you guys done this? Any advice on which lights to fit? I'd thought about wiring the whole thing to a fag lighter plug so the unit is swappable between vehicles, but it'd probably be best to add a relay and wire it in full time.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Keep them small or you could trash them laning...

fag lighter sockets not rated for much current so dedicated wiring and switch is the way

your main decision will be how to run the power cable to the lights. drill the roof or run the cable through between the door and a pillar

I had the roof drilled to power my roof lights, keep meaning to convert it to a disconnect but it can wait.

I think I'll route the cable through the passenger door seal. If I drill a hole in the roof, I'm bound to drill through something vital or get in the wrong place..

Do you think four lights is too much, or would two do the trick.? Big floods are 100w each, I don't want to destroy my battery and alternator.

We've used them for laning and challenges for a while now and they've stood up to the abuse, bulbs and reflectors are available at B&Q too.

These are thje ones Boogieman and I discussed @ a year ago

IIRC they fit on round Landy roof bars and Jeep onesare a bit of  an issue

X eng were reluctant to progress an alternative fitment...unless I supplied measurements..
