Hi the last two days i have had the coolant boiling out of my coolant bottle of my 96 cherokee 2.5 td sport its boiling out throught the plastic cap on top and causing the jeep to overheat!
There is no oil in the water and no water in the oil the guy i brought it off said this happened to him a few times and then stopped, i think the thermostat has been removed also i have noticed a sqeaking noise which sounds like a tight fan belt maybe its the water pump on the way out?? also when i top the water up it bubbles as if there is air in the coolant and keeps dissapearing the top radiator hose dosnt feel like it has much pressure there which again may point to the water pump not operating correctly any help is appreciated!! :banghead:

Have a look at all the threads on here about cherokee diesal overheating... its a cracked cylinder head....!
my diesal cherokee did exactly the same thing...i bought myself two bottles of steel seal...put them in the cooling system...problem fixed...
I did it a year ago , and done thousands of miles without problem...
Or...you could replace all the heads...but its not really worth it...

UPDATE** been out this morning an noticed that the orange water light is on on the dash console even with the water bottle full of water also there is no water circulating in the filler bottle via the top small pipe?

Could be cracked heads (oil/water doewsn't normally mix)
cooling system/radiator full of crap - needs flushing big time
radiators full of mud - seperate and wash them
I'd try the other 2 before heads (but likely to be them)

Read my thread, as I have the same problem, it could be a stuck thermostat, which can be removed but I needed to make a paper gasket . I removed the water gallery and it was obvious which cylinder was cracked. I then tried the holts wonder seal, no luck.
So i have gone for a new head, parts arriving this week..
Fingers crossed as I like the rest of the Jeep and the engine is great when it's running...
Good luck..

Hi Guys, same old same old with my Cherokee, which came home yesterday on the back of a recovery truck. I'm sure it's the heads that have gone, however do you think the water pump has packed up as well???
Only reason I ask is I managed to do 40 miles with temperature sat at about 65, then it just went into the red. RAC guy didn't think water was circulating well (water pump) and the bottom hose was cold but the top one was hot???????
FYI, put steel seal in it this week, not overly impressed.... hasn't done anything.
Also, can you recommend anyone for parts guys, have tried the usual places on here, but are there any hidden Gems.
