this site is now booked twice for this year because i know its popular and this way if you cant make one you can try for the other.
-
sweet :greggmo:
MUST have the Bastard run in by then, and should be good weather :icon_super:
-
and i must have my Red truck running by then, need to challenge it a bit :icon_winkle:
-
cool, u lead, i will follow, then u will be there and ready to drag me out
-
you fancy the waterfall then, i want to go down it this year :greggmo:
-
:icon_eek:
i may have to have a look at that first
-
Deri drives a waterfall! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtbcA4Y6R9k#)
quality is crap but you get the idea :greggmo:
-
all looks manageable until that painful bump at the end, altho my front end is bein Phatphux'd reinforced so should be ok
i shall take advice on the day :003:
-
i shall take advice on the day :003:
you will be doing it then and its the rear end that needs protection, tank guard etc as it drops off the waterfall :icon_winkle:
-
see, i need a lot of advice :hysterical:
-
sweet :greggmo:
MUST have the Bastard run in by then
I can help there, you can deliver the 360 in time for me to fit it :003:
-
Hummm..
-
you wont fit down there bd i dont think mate. yer truck to gay sorry i mean big. :hysterical:
-
i saw two guys do the waterfall both ways in a tj with 31's and very little lift and they mad it look easy. they did use waffle boards for some bits but they did it very well.
-
So thats how its done.......a plan forms...
-

mind reader :greggmo:
-
you wont fit down there bd i dont think mate. yer truck to manly, sorry i mean big. :hysterical:
fixed it for ya :003:
and weirdly, coz i admit it looks big, but its width is less than an JK and a TJ according to:
http://www.carbuddy.com.au/car/values/specification/default.aspx?mk=JEEP (http://www.carbuddy.com.au/car/values/specification/default.aspx?mk=JEEP)
admittedly a bit longer tho
-
top do this anyone thinking of going, hotel a stones throw for you cushty types
hope to make again this time :icon_biggrin:
-
would like to do some punches for this one if mark and clayt would do the honours.
-
that will be a challenge
-
I've now booked this event in my diary, making sure no other commitments are going to get in the way.
I'll be trying the waterfall, I've been down it before so can help anyone else who wants to go down and maybe I'll try going up it.
Are we camping Fri and Sat nights?
Unfortunately it looks like this will be the only Birty's event I can get to this summer :010:
-
yep camping all weekend.
-
If it's ok, count me in
-
Do you have to pre book this event or is it a turn up, pay & play?
-
good point, had forgotten bout this, better go and hit the calendar as im hopin to be mobile by then in some form or another, and if the red CJ is still here (hope it isnt TBH) will use that
-
ya dont have to pay up front but if you are stopping in the hotel you will need to book that. if you intend to off road you must have front and rear recovery points as this site can get tricky.
-
so dare i ask who is gonna make this one?
-
Looking forward to this, planning to do the saturday :greggmo:
-
me & Sid this time, all booked up at home, will be in the red CJ or summink else that i have spent the profits on
or of course the Bastard if its ready and rollin
-
a real possibility, one question how do we stand on MOT etc, plan is to trailer tonka but will be running on headers, no pipes so will be fekin loud, is that going to be a problem?
-
Might pay a visit, maybe even camp but definately no offroading for me
-
Hell yeah, i'll be there for the weekend. Been looking forward to it. Will even bring dutch's bling along if he's there or someone can get it closer to him.
-
so is that 5 then :icon_toilet:
-
come on guys bums on seats is the only way any club can put events on
-
Im sooooooooo going :icon_super: and i will be camping (ooo matron)
-
hoping to be there if things work out :greggmo:
-

Use it or lose it and all that
-
I'll be there.
-
If you don't mind a little suzuki tagging along i'm upfor it.
-
Getting a bit closer to being able to make it, looks like I got a trailer, rated for 3 ton just needs new floor boards and a bit of fettling, and only cost £140.
My mate has agreed to let me store yella at his place for a month or so, got to get out of the way as got 3 SORNd cars at the moment and the small bit of hard standing outside the house looks like a bad game of tetris, can't make enough room to get at the engine in Tonka.
New exhaust gaskets arrived today so just need some service parts for the new engine and should be good to go
-
Greggmo
Bubba
Dave69
Bulldog

Dave.
-
stuff out of my hands is interfering with dates if i can make it sunday wil be my only day
-
not sure in what i will be driving, all depends on how stuff goes, but trying to find a way to be there. Looking at the guys who are coming we are sruggling for winches like last time and that may be a prob with some of the trucks.
Are mark and Clayt not up for this trip ?
-
winch on mine if it helps

-
Do Phatphux have time to create a winch bumper for the Chief?
Or if im lucky I may have another plan
-
I'll be there and can do some recovery / marshalling duty if it helps.
Is it a Jeep related problem Greggmo or more a date clash/family probs etc? Just thinking that we could help out with a Jeep fixing if needed??
-
:imwitstupid: :iagree:
-
Sorry to be an old woman naggin on this but I need to plan different stuff on this date if its gonna die again, so how's it lookin so far?

I'm still up for it.
As said above, I have a front winch and a Jeep that can get most places for recoveries, a full tool box, basic first aid kit and basic first aid training, teeny fire extinguisher :icon_redface:
If it gets cancelled then it's an extra weekend for fixing the niggles on the Jeep so would rather just know and plan.
-

Nice little 100 mile pootle around worcs, herefordshire & bit of Gloucestershire so may end up passing the clyro again :hysterical:
-
I should be there sometime about 6-8pm on Friday. I'm gonna camp both nights, definitely offroad Saturday, maybe have to miss offroading Sunday cos I'm being pushed into other commitments Sunday afternoon/evening.
-
Going to have to miss this...TJ not fixed so made other plans
-
As ive not been to Clyro before, what tends to happen on the friday and Saturday evening? is it bring a BBQ, fire up the Stove, or find a Pub? just asking so i know what to bring? Oh and tonight im making home made Sausage rolls that are to die for!!!! BD dont worry i will be making extra for you lol
-
you cant have barbies on the ground or fires but folks either cook summat up themselves, eat in the hotel or go elsewhere
then we usually sit round and get bladdered and talk shit
-
its quit surprising at these get togethers how fluent some are at talkin shit even before a beer :icon_eek:
-
its quit surprising at these get togethers how fluent some are at talkin shit even before a beer :icon_eek:
sorry mate :hysterical:
-
:hysterical: i can talk shit with the best of them as a result of working for metal and waste
-
for all you guys who will turn up before me on Friday
drive up to the hotel, just before you get there you will see a gravel drive to the left, go past the ramshackle toilets, then turn right into the field where we will be camping.
Dont forget to go up to the hotel reception and pay for camping if its not too late, after pitching up of course
There is another event on the main field, not off-roading so dont camp with them unless you like gymkhama :icon_winkle:
-
If they look like these, you will find me with the Horsey women :icon_biggrin:
(https://birtydastards.com/frm/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi599.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ftt79%2FCockneyBoy%2Farticle-1036563-01F7F88800000578-248_468x659.jpg&hash=8cfc720d408bad724f18acad1b265083e2e84f04)

-
be there around 10am saturday
-
Cockney Boy - I've ben to Clyro a few times with different groups and generally BBQs that stand on legs off the ground are ok, camping stoves ok, I've never been in the hotel for food but it's there and there's also another hotel pub within walking distance down the road. I'm going to be cooking my own food and bringing my own drinks cos of a serious lack of fluff at the moment - Let's just pray for OK weather.
P.S. If the horsey types are like those two I'll be far too distracted to eat and will definitely not be camping with you lot :003:
-
cooking my own but takeaway maybe sat'day night, drinking my own but maybe a loosener or finisher in the pub at some point if they will let Sid in with me
checked the weather and we all good apart from Fri night when its gonna mega piss down
-
Shall I get cheapy BBQ (on legs) for everyone to cook on?
-
im gonna have to buy some meat if ya do coz i gone for canned shit to be done on the coleman
-
Meat it is BD :)
-
i have chicken breasts in the freezer, that will do :icon_super:
-
mmm breasts
-
You forgot the word "plump" Bubba
-
I've got stove food ready but might get something out the freezer if you are bringing a bbq
-
Should be there around 10ish sat mornin. Will be bringing bbq and beer!
-
guys this is important. you MUST check in at the hotel reception also check where to camp as i have been told by Tim the owner of the site that they do have a horse event on there this weekend so you need to know where we cant go. have a great and safe weekend guys. please stick to the rules and do as you are asked for your own safety and remember if you do somethin stoopid get lots of photos....no just remember someone has to be in charge of things and they dont want to see anyone get hurt or worse. please be careful. :greggmo:
-
Well I've just arrived and it's rain quite hard lol
-
had a call from BD about 1 o'clock and he was at the side of the road waiting for the AA to show up :banghead:
-
ooops....doesn't sound good. Hope he's ok and brakedown can be fixed on the roadside so he can continue.
-
He's home and safe with the boys, looks like he is trying to get it sorted and may still make it
-
ran out of petrol !!!!!
-
Bugger!!! Fingers crossed he can make it
-
looks like it was the coil, used one fitted and seems to work, think his plan is to get some spares and set off in the morning

Sweet! So all being well shall prob be there at the same time tommorrow :lol_hitting:

i'll give him credit for determination.
at least he will learn how to change a coil and how to use a hammer to free off siezed brakes.
will he need a service when he gets to Clyro?
what type of pads does his jeep use? if they are late 80's cherokee (and cj i think) then i might have a set to help him out.

Just got back need :icon_jook:
Really good day, very challenging conditions, anyone who has been before will know what the hill to get to the top of the site is like, well it was for the very committed but everybody made it up, eventually :003:
BD is showing major commitment, never heard a V8 scream before but fair play to him.
Managed to bust one JKS disconnect & bend the other fooker, thats commitment for you :003:
Pics to follow.
Much thanks to MOCAJ for running the day & to Mark & Clayt (Warthog & Astlum) for taking the lead & tale end charlie roles.
Cracking time folks :icon_super:
-
A few pics off my phone, will upload from camera later :icon_winkle:

All had a great day and were all stuffed and my BBQ has doubled as a nice camp fire too :) Sid is earning his pocket money finding wood to burn too. Happy days

I'll take a pic of the bits later then maybe somebody can tell us both Daggs :003:
Have a good day Kev, if you have a fuel cap for the Chief that would save BD a lot of money too, new name for the chief yesterday was Molatov :icon_winkle:
-
It was very steep & very slippy :003:

the slope for the two vidoes is the entrance to the clyro waterfall. Assylum was controlled all the way down where Mocaj followed in exactly the same gear and control but lost traction towards the bottom.
The climb up to the top of the hill was challenging each time it was travelled. With changing conditons the driving was a interesting and hard even with the most aggressive tyre pattern. Bulldog showed the ability of the chief in std condition by achieving everything attempted with minor coaching on steering wheel turning to gain better traction, even with a v8 running flat out.
Saturday saw the humidity rise which mad us feel like your eaten alive with the insects, walking around was challenging itself due tot he slipperiness of the ground.
The waterfall was condsidered after plenty of time discussing the condition Warthog and James decided to give it a go. Warthog took the exit before the waterfall while James carried on. This was very technical and the XJ was probably the better vehicle to use due to the long wheel base and it was completed safely with a couple of battle scars. Unfortunately the photographs do not do the route justice in regards to condition and the nature of the steps.
video footage if uploaded is worth the viewing.
Sunday morning was on a drying surface with a still wet substrate which made driving even more challenging. with the temperature rising into the 29's and the humidity rising as well cooling was a concern for some.
either way a great weekend was had in one form or another and good organisation from Mocaj with everyone pulling together to assist in every way for each others little problems. This weekend for me showed what the Birtys club was all about.
Health and safety was observed at all times

I really need to make next years. This year I'm afraid I was being an auctioneer!! :003: We were raising money by auctioning off favours from people in the local church. The money is going to a Christian charity that helps young kids who've been raped in the ghettos of South Africa. By the age of 5, in these areas, 1 in 4 girls have been raped by their fathers or a relative due to the misuse of drugs and alcohol. :jpshakehead: A British guy and his wife whom I know, who should be in retirement, started a charity to help those kids which is really blossoming. In 3 hours we raised over a grand so I reckon it was worth me missing out this year but as Arnie says.."I'll be back!!" :003:
-
hope everyone got home safe :greggmo:

Home mid-afternoon but knackered - what a great weekend. Even the damp Friday weather wasn't then end of the world, MOCAJ loaned out some space in his kitchen for us!
I could have driven the waterfall a bit better but it was still good fun and I have to thank Dave and my other spotters/guides cos I couldn't have done it without them.
Hope you all had a good time and got home safe.
:icon_biggrin:

Looksa good weekend..great vid of James crawling...glad BD made it home and that folk had fun...
-
Glad to have you all back safe!!! :icon_super:
-
Sooooo BD will we be having a blow by blow account of your trip out West ?
Sort of a 'brakedown' (excuse the pun) of your experiences with the Nutter aka Molotov.
And how much fuel did you actually burn getting there and back ?
Enquiring minds need to know :003:
-
the story will have to wait for another day when i got more time :003:
but somewhere between 6-10mpg for the weekend, but that is factoring that I left my very oil petrol lake in the woods :icon_super:
rough calculation - I was too scared to do it properly - is that for every 2 miles I travelled I spent £1 :hysterical:
the milemarker 4x2wd kit with 16% overdrive that I have just had fitted to the Bastard will shortly be ordered up for the Nutter :greggmo:
-
one of the best parts of the weekend tho was taking the scenic route thru the mountains from Brecon to Abergaveny on the way home, lovely sunny day, all the windows inlcuding the tailgate rolled down, foot up on the transmission tunnel and chillin on some nice winding roads with just the burble of the V8 to keep me company (Sid was asleep) as I checked out the scenery, TBH it felt that at that point that was life bein as good as it gets :greggmo:
-
Sweet :icon_super:
-
Top Weekend :icon_super:
A right Motley Crew of characters. A good mixture of, Piss Take and Camaraderie Blues
Just what was needed for the weekend.
Shame more Birty's couldnt make it though, Cuz these events really do make the club tick.
Hopefully see you "ALL" at Cheapfest :003:
Respect to Bulldogs 30 year old truck. He didnt go gently, gently on it! It came out with nothing other than a few niggles. Next year the waterfall i reckon, JamesH leading :icon_biggrin:
-
will there be an event folder created in the gallery for the photographs etc taken of various exploits throughout the weekend?
-
good call Dave :imwitstupid:

Bust one, bent the other :icon_rolleyes:
Serves me right for not disconnecting them :banghead:
Got a friend in the states sorting me some a replacement "gift" :icon_winkle:
-
Id possibly suggest Lord Mer disconnecting them beforehand...
-
you could have cleaned them first !!!
-
Looks like your a shiet stabber!!!
-
You should have seen the smile on Gaz's face when he was all flexed on that stump, dirty Jeep and all - I think he might get it dirty again soon :icon_super:

-
Thanks to all, for a great weekend .

I need to see how magnificent the Nutter looked as it gently strolled the hills of Clyro :003:
and where is Clayton & his pro-phtographers files?
-
the pictures need to be approved by "someone" before they go on general viewing
-
calling Birty :icon_biggrin:
-
all that have been submitted have been approved, except for the one of MOCAJ dancing naked around the tree stump.
also changed permissions so they no longer need approving, but can all Birtys please be vigilant and keep an eye open for inappropriate pics and report them by post or pm
-
OK, where's the link to the resizing thing & what are the size limits Mr Dawg per photo or batch of photos
-
cool pics so far, keep them coming :icon_super:
seill waitin for Claytons 100 pic pack

Cheers Bruce :icon_super:
-
all done :icon_biggrin:
-
Nice one matey, just the J O B :icon_super:
-
Sadly missed this, spent the weekend under the YJ replacing the clutch, UJs, lights, etc.
Love the waterfall, broke my chassis in half last time I drove it :icon_super: Did anyone try to drive up it? (It's do-able, trust me! :003:)
-
james did it all the way down, me clayton and donkk did half way down, nobody went up :greggmo:
-
Hmmmm.
-
I've been up it before but it needs at least a couple of vehicles to help each other out, set winches points etc. From memory it took a fair bit of rock moving and 2-3 winch pulls as a minimum. Happy to give it a go with someone next time!
-
Thinking a pair of Bridging Ladders might work on some sections? Save on hauling with winches :steeringwheel:
-
Thinking a pair of Bridging Ladders might work on some sections? Save on hauling with winches :steeringwheel:
I remember the first time i ever watched anyone do the waterfall and they used waffle boards, and they seemed to help, especially up the higher rock faces
-
Yep, waffle boards, rock moving, winches, patience and spotting was needed when I did it. The waffle boards help a lot by providing a surface with some traction because most of the rock is wet and very slippery.
-
isn't using ladders defeating the object ?
(https://birtydastards.com/frm/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2F3.bp.blogspot.com%2F_dYzJOgtDGO4%2FRu_7CVLMeYI%2FAAAAAAAASB0%2Fy-bdD3tW5uo%2Fs400%2Fladder.jpg&hash=8fdeacc7207b77920e23d23293630187fc21064c)

OK explain it to me again, as he rolled his Jeep he fell out and managed to get his dick stuck where?
-
Gone on Ade fetch Sid
-
Sid and Dolly???? This I have got to see....
-
Some nice photographs there Assylum, makes mine look pure amature.
Sid went down the first access slope to the waterfall while we watched. He got down but found it very slippery to get back up, so it was deemed too slippery for a jeep to go down without a rear winch to slow the progress
-
Slow decent!!! PUSSY.
-
the slate wall at the bottom didnt seem the softest of places to use a brake against gravity
-
Low gear and control normally works - if all else fails use the bank so as too slow down!!!
-
yep that philosophy normally works butyou need to explain that to Gail as she was almost shouting a few expletives when MOCAJ made is trip down the slope in low gear and the surface gave way slightly
-
OK all this ones for captioning; The funnier the better!
