Title: 2.7CRD wj 2002 - weak points to keep a eye on
Post by: Willinot on January 28, 2011, 11:07:28 PM
Having just bought a 2002 wj crd I was wondering if there are any weak points in them that I need to keep an eye on.  I know of the door blend problems but also wondering what to look for mechanically.  For example in the freelander I also own the vcu can apparently give problems so need to watch out for stiffness while reversing on full lock etc.

Anything similar for the grand both in the 4x4 system and mechanically in general.

Cheers.

Paul.

Injector seat washers can start leaking at or around 110K.

Nbr 4 & 5 are a pain because the engine has to drop to get them out/replaced.

What are the signs to look for in the rear diff giving problems, tightness in reversing on full lock?  I've noticed it feels a bit tight but have also heard it is the nature of permant 4x4 that they will be a bit tighter than a non 4x4 vehicle so am hoping it's normal enough at this stage.  Re injectors, to check for this am I listening for knocking noise or just a fuel leak.  An old 220cdi mercedes I owned had a exhaust leak past one of the injectors and was a pain in th backside to get out never mind fix.

Cheers.

Diff make a lot of noise whrn they're ffoked. Excessive tightness on turns is usually a sign of transfer box failure. The injectors are the same a a C220. Good luck :003:
