Title: Lifted Springs, what stiffness? Help and Advice needed.
Post by: williecba on February 09, 2011, 12:05:45 AM
Because of the spring problems with my WJ I am ordering a set of custom springs from Coil Springs (1989) Ltd.

They are supposed to give me 4 1/2 inches over stock.

Apparently they can give me the  height but can be a stiffer spring.

The guy says if I want it for off-roading then I may want to keep it soft.

Given the extra weight and higher centre of  gravity do I want to keep the stiffness the same or do I want a stiffer spring so it doesn't roll over when I go round the roundabouts on my way to the Pay and Plays?

Any suggestions?

Here is a clue. Stock springs are apparently 140 lbs/inch. Old Man Emu 2inch are 180 lbs/inch. Old Man Emu Heavy Duty are 220 lbs/inch.

how much extra weight is the truck carrying ???
larger spare, rock rails, arb front bumper, winch, rear recovery bumper, skid pans, recovery gear ????
you have to take into account this little lot then you need the softest spring that will carry the weight without loosing your ride hieght
:icon_biggrin: obviously account for stuff your planning to get as well as stuff already carrying  :great:

The Full-Traction coils I have on my XJ are very stiff compared to previous springs  have used (OME etc). With the weight of my winch bumper and winch and the height of lift (6") I prefer the slightly stiffe springs. They are much better on road than you would think for a 6" lift and I have no problems off-road fully compressing and extending them under the weight of my XJ.
