Title: lpg problems on 1995 jeep cherokee 4.0
Post by: tonaz on February 12, 2011, 05:54:32 PM
hi everyone.

i have just bought the above vehicle and it's my first experience of owning a 4x4 or a vehicle with lpg.

basically it doesn't seem to be gettig many mpg using the lpg. i put £20 in and got about 50 miles!? is this normal? i wondered whether it needed a service? does this need to be done by a specialist? does anyone know anywhere in the north east i could take it?

it is also much less powerful when using lpg, again is this normal?

thanks and sorry for all the questions, i look forward to people's responses.

tony.

also when filling up there seems to be lpg escping from where the nozzle is attached. the first time i filled it up it was fine but ever since it's been a nightmare for leaking and to get the nozzle off again once filled. any ideas anyone?

thanks again,

tony.

It may be leaking at the fitting on the filler, causing the leak and low miles per £. Performance is slightly reduced on lpg, more so with a single point LPG system (I have a multipoint one). If it is really bad then maybe it is not setup quite right. With the leak as well it might be a good idea to get the system checked out. Unfortunately I don't no anyone local to you to suggest.

thanks for the reply. so i take it there are specialist places that deal with lpg? i think i will try to get someone to have a look at it asap. i don't even know what type of system it is to be honest!

yeah i am in newcastle upon tyne. searched on google but not found anywhere? anyone know of anywhere around newcastle, gateshead or county durham area? cheers, tony.

my jeep is great of petrol by the way. especially considering it has 178,000 on it. still pulls really well.
