Title: Oil Leak - Engine to Box
Post by: Andy F on February 16, 2011, 08:20:21 PM
hi everyone

i have just purchased a 1999 jeep cherokee XJ Orvis TD. Been doing a basic service and found a small oil leak that seems to be coming out between the engine bloack and gearbox. I wondered if anyone had any ideas on what it maybe. I was debating doing it myself buy removing the gearbox on my own could be interesting.

Thanks for your help

have done a bit more searching around and think it maybe the rear main seal.

Some people seemed to have replaced this by taking the sump off only. Anyone know if this would work on a 2.5TD?

Thanks

No you have to remove gearbox, clutch, flywheel and gearbox adaptor plate. Change the O rings on the adaptor plate at the same time. Better still, leave it till it gets worse. It will probably have broken down properly before that happens anyway :003:
