cherokee 94 4.0l limited
Just got this last week and know nothing about them except what I'm reading up, I'm popping down to my local mech (who I have used for years but he is a merc specialist with other general knowledge) for him to have a look around.
1) What should we be checking for under the car etc
2) I know these are heavy on petrol, but over the week I've calculated its been doing about 11mpg, can this be improved
3) Are the Heater Controls meant to light up at night
4) I've noticed the drivers seat seems to be loose, can this be tightened up
5) Steering wheel is off center by about 5 degrees, Can I pop it off and then put it back on straight Like I did in my old merc
cheers for any help

1) What should we be checking for under the car etc
oil leaks and rust
2) I know these are heavy on petrol, but over the week I've calculated its been doing about 11mpg, can this be improved
service it, sould be doing 18-20mpg easily
3) Are the Heater Controls meant to light up at night
yes
4) I've noticed the drivers seat seems to be loose, can this be tightened up
mount may be broken, could need welding or just tighten the bolts
5) Steering wheel is off center by about 5 degrees, Can I pop it off and then put it back on straight Like I did in my old merc
check the tracking first, then adjust the wheel via the steering draglink

rust, suspension and steering, get her undersealed this summer, get hera service, engine oil and brakes and filters, grease all your steering grease point and your drive line with a grease gun, change out your diff oils and check for leaks on the drive line, gearbox and transfer case oils should be changed out if you dont know the car history.
heavy on fuel, ajust your driving, its a heavy car with big engine, foot to the floor you will pay for it,there not really ment for speed and being first away from the lights.
driver seat, could be bolts loose or gubbed seat, there easy to get from breakers yards,
steering, get it checked out by garage, may be tie rod or steering joint worn, they will ajust the steering for you, should not be expensive for joint, shop on the net and ebay for your spares and get local garage to put them on,or have a crack at it if you have the right tools.....happy jeepin

mpg should around the 20 mark with average driving. light foot doesn't realy have much of an effect to improve. heavy foot and it bottoms out, as does leaving it in sports mode.
rear seat mount bracket most likely on its way out and needing a reweld
