Hi there,
does any one else have a problem with their fuel gauge on grande cherokee 2.7crd. It appears that what ever amount of diesel i put in, it is only ever half full :017:
It also can read empty very quickly after being filled. cant keep up with stupid thing - very frustrating ! ! ! !

Jo, same here that the gauge can be a bit temperamental.
Always when gauge is nearing 1/4 tank it can read 0 on next start-up.
You'll do 350 miles per full tank easily around town and I've learned to ignore whatever the dial says.
Funny though because it only happens around town. On long motorway runs it it works perfectly, then it lasts 430/450 miles per tank depending on speed.
Not a lot of help I know. :icon_winkle:

Many thanks Dutch,
very true, i do alot of short trips in my day. however, on the long journey it is better.
Glad to know its not me going mad ! ! !

Does the on board computer read correct with the amount of miles you have left in your tank, regardless of what the fuel gauge reads????
-
I have the same issue gauge seems to go up and down when it feels like it onboard Range display also drops 50 miles in a 8 mile trip but again ok on motorway
Pain it the are

Nope....when tank gauge goes south......miles to go is 0 on puter :icon_sad:

Thats a bummer, have you done the fault check???
Could there be a fuel sender sensor that is failing???

Been doing it since I've had it....4 years now....does not show up on any scans.....do not know how the gauge works but think it is mechanical rather than electrickery.....maybe dirt on the sender/floater or something.
Don't know if WJ's have a slidy thingamabob in the tank or something... :017:
Like I said, doesn't really bother me and on the long run its ok.

I have the same problem with my YJ. I put £80 in, the gauge falls really quickly and 240 miles later it splutters to a halt :jpshakehead: :hysterical:

If i put 50 quids worth of diesal in my Cherokee ( a full tank ) i can get almost 500 miles out of it before it needs a refill....
Of course living in Poland makes a bit of difference , and i do have to replace the odd cylinder head and other assorted bits on route....

so how many cylinder heads do you get to the tank?
-
Ha.. i guess if was not for the steel seal i flung in there due to a cracked head when i bought it i would be looking at one cylinder head per two tank fulls of fuel... Thankfully the miracle fluid is still doing its job.... However , i have had to replace two lots of hydraulic adjusters , and might have to do another before my next 1000 mile jaunt to Moscow...
Don,t you just love VM engines...?

Lol, second that notion! Got 2 V8 on the drive and in use at the moment. Chuffing costly!
-
i'd be rich if it wasn't for the fuel bill each week :banghead:

I have been travelling alot in Feb for work, to over see another site.
Normally my fuel claim is going from a couple of local sites and maybe only 100miles on it, this one is over 1500miles so I have been keeping my receipts to submit.
I will add them up tomorrow to see what gone in the jeep and mondeo this month!!!!! (didnt use the jeep to travel for work lol)
