1994 Cherokee 4.0
My back box is blowing quite a bit, and theres no cat on, someone has welded a pipe in, and I've just noticed that the two bolts for the downpipe off the manifold, one of them has broke off and some pleb has tried to weld the bolt in (not worked it's only held on by the 1 bolt).
My questions are can I remove the downpipe from under the car or do I have to take the manifold off?
Also is it possible to remove a weld blob, it covers about a quater of the bolt hole on the downpipe.
cheers

Its a very tight squeeze, can get the nut off the down pipe, but will the bolts come off the manifold side, or do I have to disconnect the mainifold from the engine to remove the bolts to the downpipe.

might be a case of taking the manifold off at least then you can clean up the mess a previous owner has inflicted. (last option)
i would have expected the retaining bolts to be loose and come out as you have said from the manifold side.
not realy swapped the downpipe on mine yet so it's more like a case of have a look and do what suits the removal

If it's still got the stock manifold then it's probably cracked anyway and worth taking the whole system off and replacing. With parts from eBay etc the whole system won't be as much moolar as you might be worried about.

cheers guys, when got car it came with a spare mainfold and down pipe, I'm ordering new CAT & Backbox
how much of a nightmare is it to remove the manifold, and does anyone where there's a guide to do it, I cant find one with pics

Not sure where there is a guide with pictures but I did mine about a year ago. It's best to remove as much of the other parts as possible, including the power steering pump, airbox, inlet manifold and anything else around. I used a variety of sockets, socket univeral joints, extensions of different lengths, spanners etc. some bolts are easy to reach, others are a pig. Definetely get a genuine inlet/exhaust manifold gasket and not a card one as provided by some manifold manufacturers. I have the benefit of about 9" extra height under my jeep from lift and tyres so can work from underneath quite easily. If you can get it jacked up safely to a decent height it may be useful for access to some of the bolts.
