drum playing badgers in your wheel well?
no help then

It is a tough one to be honest - perhaps more information???

Wheel bearing perhsps
-
when its put into 4wd you get the same type of noise from the front as a rear pinion bearing gone in a d35
have changed the axle and get same noise
cannot be muds as get the same noise on road tyres
driving me nuts to tell you the truth
-
is it constant with motion, like a rotary part or rhythmic with up/down travel? if you have done the axles then next to look at would be the link arms & shock mounts, but do check for badgers you never know

Remove the front prop and drive then report back....

:iagree:

Bent / unbalanced prop ?

If you've changed all those parts that you listed in your first post and the noise/vibrations is exactly the same then it must be that some other part is transmitting a noise or vibration that is actually normal. I would guess at control arms, do you have poly bushes installed? if factory control arms are the bushes shot? Also, as an outside shot, is the steering damper loose, bushing gone? My Dad's was making a terrible 'suspension' clunking cos of this. Shock bushes are the only other thing that springs to mind, actually the rubber isolators on top of the springs would be worth checking too if you;re under there.

grumbling sound is constant when put into 4wd after axle swaps. if you steer left and right and the noise changes then this points towards a wheel bearing but then this would be evident in 2wd.
same noise after axle swap indicates it's not axle related.
did you use the same prop shaft ? if so remove the front as IOM has suggested and see what happens.
knackered bushes don't make rumbling they amplify every bump in the road into bangs or clunks.
either front prop joints or transfer box

taking prop off tommorrow lunch to try out
will post again then
