when pulling away i notice there is a knocking noise comes from the rear of the car. this is when it is in 2wd. i haven't tried it in 4wd yet. the noise is worse when i pull away hard. if i'm gentle with it it seems to be ok.
it's normally like three knocks then it's fine and it's fine when driveing and cornering.
can anyone tell me what this is likely to be?
thanks,
tony

what if u floor it when u r doing say 10-20 mph?

Have a look at the exhaust.

think it's normally only when from a standstill. i wil try it tomorrow from 10mph or so.
i also noticed there is a whine coming from beneath where the handbrake is when i first start it from cold and pull away. is this likely to be the same thing or something unrelated?
thanks for your replies.
i will also have a look at exhaust when i get a chance in daylight.

rear prop for whine
check the exhaust where it goes past the transfer case on the cross member
-
check rear exhaust hanger by the petrol tank, these fail and the tip in tip out effect from pulling away causes the exhast to rock from side to side and clout the bodywork
-
had both hangers go on last jeep at different times
