I just dont know whats wrong with me lately, when it comes to 4x4s i seem to have gone haywire. In a desperate attempt to raise money for Wazzas XJ i advertised my Landcruiser and Z3,anyway did a deal today with a chap and took money and a 1998 4.0 grand cherokee with a private plate, and that was the start of the shit. The guy was awfully quick to do the deal and me having the chance to get rid of my lemon back to the same sort of scum that sold it to me in the first place was happy to play along but now i wonder who got played more.He told me it had MOT and he had misplaced it but would post it,oh yeah seeing as it ran out 10 days ago.I took it for a drive and seemed ok,even trying the 4wd low etc which seemed ok but im no expert.Theres a shit load of other crap though. Some simple and some maybe not so so im looking for ideas, but will list all known so far
1) Boot wont open, can hear it i fear lock/unlock but it just wont open (DONE)
2) Interior lights stay on even after you lock the car,had to disconnect battery for time being (SORTED)
3) Bonnet wont shut properly and pull lever is missing, just a pin thing where it would be.Tried pushing and pulling but bonnet still wont lock down (DONE,temporarily)
4) When braking it pulls to left and there is a kind of brake/clutch smell,im guessing sticky caliper maybe?
5) No code for radio,in folder there is a sticker with 1908 on but i cant get the code thing to go above 6
6) Drivers seat loose and heating doesnt work (Fixed, thanks to ROB)
7) Usual lack of handbrake
And thats just for starters,oh and its the Orvis model, whats the difference between that and a limited??
-
Oh dear, was it cheap???
-
NB has the fix for the rear boot,
sticking caliper might be the source of the burnt brake/clutch smell
heating might be the broken blend door
radio code new cheap radio replacement
interior light, similiar issue with the xj switch ???? guess
bonnet source bonnet cable and grease bonnet caches, bonnet pull bottom right A pillar ?
drivers seat, has this got a broken frame that might need a simple tack weld
at least the rear axle isn't groaning yet
-
Orvis was a special edition named after IIRC a US outdoor clothing company
-
nicer seats and some bonnet vents & bits of trim, otherwise a limited
-
Ok,cheers will keep you posted as to how it all goes.Anyone know which fuse does the interior lights and where its located please?Just with battery disconnected theres no alarm etc
-
Tank dude
GCs dont have major issues with handbrakes
It may be the shoes on the rear discs need adjusting or even replacing

I thought lack of handbrake was just a general "Jeep" thing anyway??? Never had a good one yet :lol_hitting:

Solid as a rock on a ZG...
-
My luck then to get one that isnt :icon_winkle:
-
Tank, I knows it's quite few issues but if you just do one job at a time I don't think any of them are too bad. Will the the heater work on full?
-
I know James,i just left it for today though as i still had visions of this guy coming back wanting his money back, bringing all his asian brothers along for persuasion. Now hes put the Landcruiser on Ebay i am guessing i am ok to go ahead, get it MOTed and start looking at it and trying to get it sorted,so will make a start tomorrow and let you know how it goes
-
Tank .Re the radio code it may be the first 4 on the presets that you have to use to get the numbers up but will check later today on the XJ radio instructions, ( when i find them).

Had a bit of a mess today and managed to sort a couple of things. I fixed the boot lock, gave it loads of wd40 and adjusted the bar,now 100%.....for now. Also managed to get bonnet to shut with the help of a set of mole grips on the cable.Needs a new pull though,is it a complete cable replacement job, anyone know? At least i can open and shut it properly so no risk of it flying up.Seat appears to be as Dave said and the part of the seat frame has snapped,so hopefully just a re-weld.Heating now ok.I removed the fuse for the interior lights, great i thought....but i notice now the door puddle lights or whatever they are are still staying on,so obviously on a seperate fuse and need to look further.Havnt been able to re-try the radio yet as it says wait 2hrs so im leaving it in acc position whilst i go the park and will try when i come back.Heres some pictures[attachment=1][attachment=2][attachment=3][attachment=4][attachment=5][attachment=6][attachment=7][attachment=8][attachment=9][attachment=10]

Always happy to help where and when i can mate, cant wait to see them with some rubber on them........... (that should get them talking.......)
Puddle lights go out so just interior lights crap.
Panic, did you mean today or just in general???
-
you can pop down now as long as its light enough to get it done before the sun goes down
-
OK cheers
-
It came from Cornwall then
BTW Radio code if the Jeep is original is 4 digits..
Good luck with it Tank
-
Well thanks to Rob,the seat is now sorted, cheers Rob.He also worked out the problem with the interior lights for me.As for the radio code,i havnt been able to try again as i cant seem to get rid of that "wait 2hr" to retry.
Lots of positives then, but on a down side i think i was mistaken about rear axle,as i turned off the heater fan on way home and there is a distinct rumble,so first step is to change the fluids and make sure there is the correct additives in
-
looks nice i like them
-
looks nice i like them
Its kind of growing on me,i can see why people like them and they are said to be so comfy....and even better now im not being made sea sick by a broken seat :greggmo:
Just dont think i could live with the economy,or lack of it
-
I wouldn't be surprised if it has little or no oil in the diff, I've seen it on a work colleagues who was pricing up a full rebuild.
-
Cheers James. Will probably do change anyway and make sure the correct stuff is in,and the additive as well i believe they need
