Broke a leaf spring from carrying garden wall rubble several runs to the tip, also a monster wacker plate, totally abused my xj. as i had fitted a hybrid of jeep and ford escourt van spring leafs 3 years ago for lift and load carrying i had to buy a couple of escourt springs from a breakers off a v reg £25 , to fit them last time i had to re drill the center hole in the leaf of the ford spring trust me this is a real pain!! x2 lots of noise plenty of lube low speed and drill bit sharpening.
so today decided to buy a decent drill bit was advised to get a cobalt bit not a cobalt tipped bit but a solid pure cobalt one, this 8mm drill bit is awsome it drilled through the spring steel in about 20 seconds and the leaf is quite a thick one as it's off a van the second leaf was drilled in the same time we checked the bit for wear and it was still as new not a mark on the tip, :icon_eek: highly recommended :icon_biggrin:

I use them to drill out locks,not cheap but definately worth the money

Be careful if buying imperial cobalt drill bits, there was a whole bunch imported from I don't know where about a year ago, they totally flooded the market, some even ended up in the RAF toolkits, they were absolute crap, those that didn't burn out, gave you oversize holes with burrs to take your hand off.
So if you want imperial drills, go for a known make that has been recommended by someone you know.

Generally though they are the dogs, but by 'eck them small diameters are easy to break!
