Title: Engine hunting / uneven idle
Post by: jay140285 on April 28, 2011, 08:49:40 AM
I have noticed that my Jeep WJ 4.7V8 has started to have an un even idle. As if the car is breathing when its ticking over is the best was to describe it.

After I towed my caravan for an hour yesterday, when in park the idle was going from 1000rpm down to 500 and up to 1200 and down again.

Its pulling fine, and all power is present.

All I do know is that's it is due a service and booked in for 7th may for its 82k service.

Is there something else that needs looking at when the service is carried out???

Cheers

James

clean the throttle body & idle valve and check for air leaks

Cheers, will get out this afternoon and have a look. Failing that will let garage sort it next weekend, will it do any damage using it as is.

If it's an air leak after the MAF, then the mixture will be all to cock (lean) and you could damage sensors, valves and only Mike knows what!
If its running rich then the cat wont like it either.

Don't forget that you still need to get it to the garage next week so maybe a bit of damage limitation wouldn't go amis.

Found an air leak by the throttle body, sorted for now. Cheers
