hi has any body else got a four barrel holly carb on a 360 v8 if sow have u got any info on it as would like to find out more about it for tuning and stuff
and it goes like hell
-
do ya mean ya CJ goes like hell?
-
I got a Holley 4150 (I think) on a 360 in my black cherry.
It goes well, but overfuels intermittently, possibly due to the power valve things sticking open when they should be shut.
Pull up at a junction, it will belch black smoke like the choke is stuck on (it aint) and threaten to die.
Next junction it's fine :017:
I never got more than 13 mpg (it's quadratrac though)
I bought a tuning book of eBlagg to learn how to fix it. Absolute bollocks. Tells you everything yet nothing useful.
Better to find your nearest American car club and go pick their brains.

hollys are good road carbs but not very good offroad carbs without lots of messing

I have always had a holley carb on my jeep, I have run a Holley 470 cfm truck avenger on a AMC 360 V8 for about a year and 1/2 now and have been very impressed with it, it will run smooth at all angles and is very responsive. Seems to be good on the road as well. If you go down the truck avenger route you defiantly need to change the power valve. All the truck avengers have a 2.5 factory fitted, I put a 6.5 in at the moment but I am going to go up to a 7.5 or a 8.5, its made a world of difference. Holley carbs are very tuneable, and you do need to fiddle with them to get the best out of them. The other alternative would be a Rochester Quadra jet, they are normally found on GM vehicles, but I am not sure what manifold they would fit .

edelbrok all the way for me holly can be good but its a messers paradise

670 truck avenger for me, straight out the box and straight on the engine.
Had it about four years and would only swap to go fuel injected
